My Basics

I love mixing navy and white year round, but there is something about adding the color red that makes an outfit look and feel just a bit brighter, happier, and even whimsical.

In this blog post and video I show you 10 classic basics that mix and match beautifully together and with other classic-styled items you probably already own. Outfit staples (or basics) are those individual pieces that are integral parts of an outfit’s foundation. These clothing pieces are like the essential features of a house. I’ve used this analogy before, but it’s the best way I know to explain it. Without windows, a roof, a kitchen or a bathroom, for example, I would not have a sensible, harmonious, and pleasing structure in which to live. The same applies to an outfit. Without classic outfit basics with which to work, I wouldn’t be able to create a sensible, harmonious, and pleasing outfit to wear.

I, personally, feel very comfortable wearing just the classic basics; they are enough for me. Others may like to add a trendy piece. For example, they might pair a a classic white polo shirt and classic khaki chinos with a trendy handbag, shoes, or jacket. However, it isn’t necessary to add in a trendy piece for a classic outfit to look current.
