A Change In My Diet & Health Journey
I have not talked about my health journey in a while, but in today’s video I touch on a fairly significant change in my diet I made recently. Since 2012 I had been off of wheat, corn, oatmeal (most grains except rice), sugar/sweeteners, dairy, fried foods, and processed meats. The reason for this dramatic adjustment to my diet was to heal my body of asthma (I had been hospitalized in the emergency room four times), chronic heart burn, a chronically inflamed bladder, and several other health issues. A blood test in 2020 further revealed that my body doesn’t tolerate eggs, quinoa or coconut well either, so I went off of those, too. For more details, see my original 2017 post here.
Because my health is improved (no heartburn, bladder issues or asthma symptoms for 12-plus years), I now am allowing myself to indulge in eggs, wheat (unbuttered toast, biscuit or scone), bacon, and french fries (or olive oil potato chips) occasionally. You will see my breakfast at Bricktop’s reflects this. Whether or not I will continue on this particular path, I don’t know, but for now this is what I am trying out.
The reason for this change is simple: I felt like I was so rigid with my diet, I was missing out on living a normal life. I never allowed myself, ever, to indulge even a little. I even stayed away from social events simply because I didn’t want to cause problems for the hostess.
Although the term “life balance” is a term that is so overused I really don’t like applying it here, it is the only term that can best describe what I want not only in my diet but also in my life.
Whenever I read about the lifestyles of centenarians, I don’t think I have ever heard of one single person completely staying away from all foods that are not necessarily the healthiest. All of the centenarians I have seen in interviews admit to enjoying some sort of “vice,” if you will–from ice cream to smoking. I, personally, have no intention of indulging in something as clearly dangerous as smoking, but to each his/her own. For centenarians, what seems to be common among all of them is a happy, positive, hopeful, and lighthearted outlook on life–which includes little indulgences like so-called no-so-healthy foods (but not overdoing it either).
My hope and goal with this change is that it will help me to lead the most healthy–and balanced–lifestyle I can. I will go into more detail about my health journey at some time in the future, but for now this is one of the major changes since 2012. Otherwise, my diet is still about the same as what it was in this post. The only other major change is, instead of quinoa, I now eat millet. Otherwise, everything else is about the same.
My Black and Pastel Pink Outfit & Shopping at David Yurman
Also in this video I talk about my black and pastel-pink outfit, and in particular how switching from jeans to straight-leg cotton pants can make a casual outfit look more interesting and refined. Cotton pants also are much more comfortable and breathable than jeans (the exception, of course, being wide-leg trouser jeans). The Pants I’m wearing are available in pink in limited sizes, but they are available in all sizes in tan. Down below I offer links to three similar pairs of pink cotton pants–as well as affordable options for black top-handle bags.
Lastly, I show my visit to the David Yurman Boutique in Saks Fifth Avenue. I had been viewing several necklaces and earrings online and wanted to see them in person. See several of the items I viewed and what I ultimately purchased down below.
I hope you enjoy this post, and I appreciate you taking the time to read it.
Thank you so much for your support 🙂

Brunch and Shopping at David Yurman
(ABOVE) At Bricktop’s in Waterside Shops, I ordered a breakfast of dry toast, two poached eggs, bacon, and french fries. (Brunch is available on Sundays.) I have been off of wheat, corn, oatmeal (most grains except rice), sugar/sweeteners, dairy, fried foods, and processed meats since 2012. I stopped eating these foods to heal my body of asthma, chronic heart burn, a chronically inflamed bladder, and several other health issues. However, since my health is improved (no heartburn, bladder issues or asthma symptoms for 12-plus years), I recently began allowing myself to indulge in eggs, wheat (unbuttered toast, biscuit or scone), bacon, and french fries (or olive oil potato chips) occasionally.
(ABOVE) Here, I am leaving Bricktop’s after lunch to head back to my car and top off my lipstick. I was very happy with how well this lip product had lasted through my meal, however. All I needed to do was replenish the color a little in the middle of my lips. This is Revlon Lipstick, Fire & Ice. It rates #1, the best/least toxic, on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep Toxicity Scale. It also is rated 91 out of 100 (Best/Safest) at SkinSAFE. How wonderful to find a drugstore makeup product that rates as well–health-wise–as the more expensive green-beauty makeup brands I have been wearing for years.

(ABOVE) Lipstick replenished, I now head to the David Yurman Boutique, in Saks Fifth Avenue, to view several items of jewelry I have been eyeing online.
(ABOVE) I thought this man’s outfit was striking. (I have shaded out his face to maintain his privacy.)
(ABOVE) At the David Yurman Boutique in Saks, my Client Advisor, Tiffany, brought out several jewelry items I had been wanting to see in person. Here, she models the David Yurman DY Elements Disc Pendants in 24mm Malachite and in 14mm Pave Diamonds. Although I didn’t end up buying these, I thought the two worn together looked wonderful. Scroll down the page and you will see what I did decide to purchase.

(ABOVE) Ultimately, I decided to buy the David Yurman DY Elements Mother of Pearl Convertible Drop Earrings, which you can see me wearing here, the following weekend. I chose these earrings in particular because I thought the Mother of Pearl and Diamonds Drop would look pretty with my other pearl jewelry–and also because the drops are removable. This allows me to wear the diamond huggie hoops alone, with one of the drops on a necklace and the other on a bracelet. My lipstick is a combination of this clean-makeup Berry Lip Pencil, with Lawless Forget The Filler Rosy Outlook Lip Gloss over it (also at Sephora)

What I Wore
(ABOVE) The Pants I’m wearing are available in pink in limited sizes, but they are available in all sizes in tan. Below I offer links to three similar pairs of pink cotton pants. (I just ordered these myself.)

My Handbag
(ABOVE) I have had this Louis Vuitton Bandouliere Malletage Speedy 25 for several months now, and I am very happy that I finally bought it. It is lightweight, large enough to carry everything I might want to have with me, comes with an adjustable and detachable shoulder strap, and has no visible monogram. I also like that it is black, because I can wear it with so many outfits. It is made of lambskin on the outside and goatskin inside, so I do need to be a bit more careful with it to keep it from scratching. However, this is the only downside, if there is one. I love the diamond pattern. It is just so pretty! Although it debuted just last fall, this handbag already is available online preloved, and at a savings. See it here.

Hi Janis,
Hope you and hubby are doing well in this inclement weather! Boston has been unusually hot for weeks. Of course, we can’t stand it! We usually have a great breeze being near the water. We had to use our air conditioner; which I dislike. We don’t have central air because our home is 118 years old! Well enough of that! I’m so happy that your health has improved! Bravo to you! I can relate as I have had food issues, too. It’s been almost a year that we did a 180 in the way in which we were consuming food. We feel so much better! I gave up alcohol completely. My husband has an occasional glass of wine. Honestly, with this change I feel like a new person. I totally understand your struggles with food issues and am so happy that you are doing better! By the way, you look beautiful! I’ve always loved the Revlon Fire and Ice lipstick and wear it quite often with white and black! Your OFOTD is fabulous! Of course, I love your new LV bag! Well, I do not want to wear out my welcome! Be happy and safe, my friend! Many Blessings, Sarah🙏❤☀
Hi Janis!
I have saved your video in my inbox for a few weeks now as I have been busy and wanted to take the time to enjoy it at my leisure. You look great in black and I love the red lipstick with it.
I also loved the throw back pix of you and your parents.. truly a memory to treasure.
Chuckled at you keeping your bag on the table even though it’s considered a bit rude.. when I wear fancy bags I usually ask for an extra chair to put them on. Doesn’t work so well when the restaurant is crowded though.
Thanks for your video as always!
Claudia
