Naples Welcomes A New Hotel
Lunch At Annie’s Bistro, Olde Naples Hotel
I have been following the construction of the Olde Naples Hotel with great anticipation, so when it finally officially opened recently my friend *CSG and I decided that we should have lunch at its restaurant, Annie’s Bistro.
This 109-room boutique hotel is nestled at the corner of Broad Avenue South and Third Street South–the former location of The Plaza–and has been in the planning stages for years.
Although there has been little disagreement that the vacant and dilapidated Plaza needed to be replaced, locals were concerned that a hotel would disrupt the peacefulness of Third Street South, and that its size and architecture would clash with the charming nearby early 20th century frame vernacular homes.
Since the early 1990s in Naples, numerous British colonial and Old Florida homes and buildings have been replaced with modern, trendy structures that many believe (myself included) look stark and cold–certainly nothing like the original buildings that have given Naples its understated charm and appeal for decades.
In the mid-1970s, my parents bought their first home in Naples, and we began to visit regularly in the years thereafter. Eventually, in 1984 (at the age of 24), I moved to Naples full time.
I have always felt privileged to be introduced to Naples at a time when I could swim in the Gulf in the afternoon and not see a single person up or down the beach. I could drive through Olde Naples and admire one house after another for its pretty, classic allure. Since then, it has been difficult to witness the regular destruction of places that many of us consider timeless treasures.
Thankfully, however, the newly opened Olde Naples Hotel does feel like it fits in nicely.
According to their website, the architecture of the new hotel was inspired by the original 1889 Naples Hotel that once stood in the same location (it was torn down in 1960). The new Olde Naples Hotel features classic old Florida blended with historic coastal vernacular, and is downscaled to blend into the historic cottage fabric of the surrounding Third Street South neighborhood.
Scroll down the page and I show some photographs I captured at the hotel, along with what we ordered for lunch at Annie’s Bistro (which was delicious)–and what I wore for the day. For more, you might want to watch my video at the bottom of this post.
Wishing you a happy remainder of the week. 🌸

Hi Janis!!!
Loved your video as always.. 2 things really resonated with me.
First of all just adore you charm bracelet. I have 3 of them all stacked with vintage charms. None are from my mom or grandma which makes it extra special but I’m a jewelry lover and about 25 years ago I started filling up charm bracelets with charms that had meaning to me including a lot places we had visited. I was super lucky that in 2002 gold was only about $300 an oz so not only was it so fun it turned out to be a great investment! Most of them I bought on Ebay searching “vintage 14k charm.”
Also was your outfit of the checked pants and button down shirt. We are traveling next week and my “airplane” outfit is just that! So funny. I just love gingham.
Anyways.. thanks for posting! Enjoy the waning days of summer.
Claudia
Oh and P.S. I’m still looking for the perfect Pittsburgh charm. 🙂 Somebody has one with the Igloo but it’s just OK.. not charming enough.
