DRESSING FOR CHILLY SPRING DAYS

Looking Refined But Remaining Comfortable

Our weather here in Southwest Florida now is much hotter than the day I filmed this outfit, but it is appropriate for those of you who are still experiencing cold weather and want to dress more like spring.  I wore it for a brunch date with my hubby.

As I so often do when we are heading to a restaurant that I know keeps their temperature chilly, I draped a Cardigan/Jacket over my shoulders. The ivory one I’m wearing from Talbots is available in XL, but other pretty colors are available in all sizes. This Ann Taylor Lady Jacket in winter white is a close match to mine.

Since we planned to walk around a bit afterward, I wore comfortable ballet flats. I like these Tory Burch Ballet Flats because they are elasticized and, therefore, fit like a dream on my narrow heels. I’ve been wearing Tory Burch ballet flats, sandals, and pumps for about 10 or so years and recommend them. They are classic in style and last for years, because they are well made, inside and out.

Dressing in a monochrome outfit–all in one color tone–is a fun way to make cropped white jeans look a bit more refined. Soft shades of light beige, white, and ivory are my favorites for these kinds of ensembles, because the colors are soothing.

Of course, if your weather outside is as hot as ours is becoming–or you don’t tend to get as chilly as I do in restaurants and theaters–you can substitute a long-sleeve tee for short sleeve and opt for a lighter weight cardigan or jacket as well. Most important is to have fun and not to worry about looking perfect. None of us looks perfect!

What I Wore

(ABOVE & BELOW) This outfit is perfect for a chilly spring day when I want to look cute and a bit more dressed up and still remain warm. If I get cold, I pop on my cardigan. If I get too warm, I  push up my sleeves and carry my cardigan over my arm. Adding diamond statement earrings helps to make an outfit look dressier.

(ABOVE) I bought this Fendi White Selleria Calfskin Mini Peekaboo at Saks Fifth Avenue, Naples, in January 2023 and carry it with casual outfits. It is a more informal bag than my Fendi Pink Lambskin Mini Peekaboo that I bought at Fendi in April 2020 (scroll down the page to see it below). The Selleria Calfskin Peekaboos have exposed stitching and glazing along the edges. The Lambskin Peekaboos have edges finished and turned in, giving a more refined, dressy look. I was told by a Fendi client advisor recently that the lambskin Peekaboos like mine are being discontinued. In case this CA might have been mistaken, if you like this style of bag I suggest you contact Fendi and enquire about it. (ABOVE) I found this Chanel Caviar Boy Card Holder preloved at Fashionphile several years ago. It was in like-new, pristine condition and I think it works nicely with the pink small Chanel Caviar Boy Bag (BELOW) that I also purchased at Fashionphile (October 2020). I saved a significant amount of money on both purchases, which is why I am such a fan of shopping preloved from reputable sites. When the items are in like-new condition, it just makes good sense to me. Getting back to the card holder: I like this style, because it has two large compartments and a slim slot for the one or two cards I use the most. This set up provides plenty of space for all of my cards, cash, and coins. My Boy bag and card holder both have the aged-gold hardware I love; however, Chanel also produces Boy bags and card holders with shiny champagne-gold hardware, as well as aged-silver and shiny-silver hardware.

(ABOVE & BELOW) This 10 ml Glass Spray Bottle is the perfect size for my handbags and cosmetic pouches. It is so pretty, too. I use it for hand sanitizer, but it’s also a favorite for perfume. It comes in a set of 20, so you can give away several to friends and family and keep others, ready to go, in your most-used handbags. I’ve never had one leak yet, but I do place them in a cosmetic pouch or a felt insert pocket just to be extra careful.

My Makeup

(ABOVE & BELOW) For the makeup and hair products I used to get this look, see below. All are considered green/clean-beauty products and rate well/low in toxicity/low in allergies at Environmental Working Group (EWG). Also, I have very sensitive skin, and not any (including hair products) have caused me itchiness, burning eyes, or a rash. 

Regarding the Hair Styling Mousse. I found it on Amazon, looked up the current ingredients at their website, was happy to see nothing to which I was allergic, and so I built an ingredients report at Environmental Working Group (EWG) Build Your Own Report and found it listed it as 2/low in toxicity. However, at EWG Skin Deep it listed as 1/low in toxicity. Either way it is still in the low toxicity range. However, I have experienced conflicting information with other products I’ve looked up at EWG– including several that EWG listed as EWG Verified coming up 3 or 4 when I built a report at their Build Your Own Report page. In conclusion, it appears that EWG does make mistakes and does not offer exact results, unfortunately.
