A New Bespoke Bag and Summer Fashion Pretties

Classic Fashion Essentials for Now and Later

Custom-Creating Your Own Bag

I am also excited to share about my new handbag and the woman who made it for me, Naomi Jones.  Naomi specializes in designing and creating custom handcrafted luxury leather handbags and accessories in classic styles and silhouettes that are as elegant as they are timeless.  She also repairs and repurposes handbags.

Naomi lives in Hong Kong, and she and her husband have the sweetest little girl. (Naomi has posted a few photographs and videos of her on her Instagram.) Her husband helps her with her business, and her mother in law babysits their toddler while they are at work.

Emailing back and forth with Naomi, I was able to choose the style of handbag I wanted (a classic top-handle bag inspired by the Hermes Kelly), as well as the silhouette (sellier, rather than retourne), the size (20cm), leather type (epsom), leather color (craie), hardware color (gold), and whether I did or did not want my name or initials stamped on the inside or outside of the bag.  (I chose not to have any personalization.)  Also, my handbag has no logo or branding.  Naomi is very clear about this on her website: she does not create replicas.

Although I was impressed with what I had seen on Naomi’s Instagram and website, I was skeptical that her workmanship would be able to measure up to my expectations.  I am very picky about even the smallest of details.  However, I am very happy to report that the handbag that Naomi created for me is pristine and beautiful.

I am in awe that Naomi began making handbags only seven years ago.  Initially she repaired handbags part-time while still working at a full-time job.  Eventually she quit her job to work entirely on her new craft, expanding into also creating new bags from scratch and repurposing old handbags that cannot be repaired.

For example, if you have a coated-canvas 30cm Boston-style bag with a tear in the canvas–which cannot be repaired–Naomi will work with you to turn your handbag into possibly a 25cm or 20cm Boston bag with new leather trim or even an entirely different style and silhouette altogether.  Perhaps you have a Goyard GM Tote Bag with a tear in the canvas?  Naomi can repurpose your tote into a smaller tote with new leather trim or even a clutch with detachable shoulder/crossbody strap and card holder.

The entire process–from when you and Naomi decide on the exact bag specifications you want until the day you receive your handbag at your home–takes from approximately three to six weeks.  Each handbag is handmade by Naomi, and the schedule can depend on the current order queue and the custom details requested.

Naomi told me it takes her about four to five days to make a bag similar to the one she made for me, and the cost ranges from $350 to $450 USD.  The final price varies depending on the handbag size, leather type, leather color, hardware option, and any special custom details.

For other pieces in her Classics Series (bags similar in style to the Hermes Birkin, Kelly 25, Kelly 28, Lindy, and other classic designs) the price ranges from $500–$800 USD, depending on the specific size, leather, hardware, structure, and custom details requested by the customer. For rare or special leathers, the price may be higher.
