LUNCH WITH CSG; A CHANGE OF SHOES
A Grain de Cafe Lunch
My friend CSG* and I had tried to meet for lunch at Grain de Cafe in North Naples once before, but picked a day it was closed (Tuesdays), so we decided to try again (on a Wednesday) and had a wonderful get together. They even had live, French cafe-style music.
She ordered a Cafe Mocha and a Quiche (which comes with a side salad), and I chose the Shrimp Salad, to which I added my homemade salad dressing (scroll down the page to see the recipe under the photograph of my lunch). My salad was quite good, however it wasn’t as much protein as I like, so I had four organic rice crackers with half a can of mashed organic chickpeas when I returned home. As much as I love a shrimp salad at restaurants, I find I usually am still hungry afterwards.
My Casual OOTD and The Shoes I Wish I’d Worn
The outfit I wore that day features a pair of Talbots Jeans that are new to me. They are a straight-leg style (27″ inseam, Misses, Size 2, Mercury Wash), and I find them very comfortable, as they have a more relaxed silhouette than skinny jeans or jeggings. I love them. Because my legs are short for my 5’8″ height, they are ankle length on me. One of the models on line makes them look cropped, so I’m guessing she is about 5’10” in height, two inches taller than me.
The temperature that day was around 75 degrees Farenheit, so we ate outside and I never needed to wear my sweater. It was perfect just tied around my shoulders.
The shoes I wore…oh my gosh, I was so disappointed when I saw the video I filmed. I have perfectly nice leather loafers that match the handbag I carried that day. It’s a redish-brown Ralph Lauren calf leather doctor bag I purchased at the Ralph Lauren store in Waterside Shops about 20 years ago. But for some reason, that morning I put on my chocolate brown suede flats. They look ok, but I think they make the outfit look busier than it already is. There are several textures and prints and colors already, so adding another color of shoe that is also another texture (suede) makes the outfit less unified.
So, four days later when I repeated the outfit, which I often do, I wore the shoes I wish I’d worn the first time, and I like the outfit much better. It’s a small detail, but I think it makes a big difference. The temperature also plummetted down to 42 degrees Farenheit, so I not only wore the cardigan, but also a quilted barn coat on top of it, and they both kept me snuggly warm. Scroll down the page and you’ll see photographs of both versions of the outfit. Plus, the video is down below, and it shows much more.
I’d love to know what you think. What color of bag and shoes would you wear with this outfit?
Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

(ABOVE) CSG was so pretty in her bright pink Tommy Bahama Linen Open Cardigan and black print J.McLaughlin Signature Tee. I love how she always dresses in classic pieces.
(ABOVE) CSG ordered a Quiche, which came with a side salad and (BELOW) I ordered the Shrimp Salad, but left off the mandarin oranges, tomatoes, lemon, and dressing. ( I make and bring my own salad dressing: 2 Tablesppons organic extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tablespoon organic apple cider vinegar and pink Himalayan salt to taste; and carry it in a 4- ounce glass leak-proof bottle.)

What I Wore Four Days Later (42 Degrees Farenheit)
Inside My Bag
(ABOVE) I bought this Ralph Lauren RL Calfskin Doctor Bag about 20 years ago at our local Ralph Lauren store in Waterside Shops, in Naples, Florida. It is heavy, because the leather is quite thick, but it has served me well over the years for casual outfits. I love the look of it.

(BELOW) Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum Intense Mini Twist Spray ( 3 x .2 FL OZ or .7 FL OZ).
(ABOVE) The perfume I carried and had on the second time I wore this outfit: Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum Intense Mini Twist Spray ( 3 x .2 FL OZ or .7 FL OZ). There are three vials in the box, so it makes a wonderful gift, and the size I bought (.2 fluid ounces) is perfect for a handbag. To keep it away from my face and skin, I spray the perfume once into the air at chest level and then walk into the mist–through it and back again. I love this scent!
(ABOVE) The real me, no makeup, just a goofy expression–and ZuZu Luxe Lip Gloss (Caliente) mixed with Triple Purified Petroleum Jelly (Amazon, Target). This was four days later, when I went out with my hubby and it was 42 degrees Farenheit outside. That’s chilly for us. I chose the same outfit I’d worn with CSG four days earlier, but changed my shoes, put on the cardigan–and also a quilted jacket over it.

Hello Janis,
Hope you and hubby are doing well! I love the casual outfit! I was going to ask you about the Ralph Lauren bag until you mentioned it’s age! Beautiful bag! I love the leather and the color. Timeless! Classics, such as the ones you featured, never go out of style! I always look forward to what you feature on your channel! Love and light, Sarah your friend from Boston🙋😘
Hi, Sarah! Thank you. We are doing well enough, and are grateful. I hope you and your hubby are well, too. Love and light back, Sarah. 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I have two pairs of those jeans and love them.
Are you still using Dr. Bronner’s unscented soap (shampoo) and citrus creme rinse? I’ve used these for awhile now, just curious to see if you’re still using them or have discovered other shampoo (soap) and conditioner.
Thank you again for sharing with us.
Gail GS
No, unfortunately I currently cannot use anything on my sensitive skin/scalp, so wash only with water. I’m still hoping to find something to condition my hair that won’t hurt my scalp because my hair is so dry I cannot wear it down anymore. But, I’m grateful to be healing and better, so much better than I was. 🙂
You look wonderful as always in all outfits.
I lunch with my friends around Biltmore House which you would love!
Oh my gosh, Catherine, I so wish we lived close to you. I’ve only seen photos of the region but it looks so gorgeous. Biltmore House is beautiful!
I appreciate your use of old classics! I have just refreshed my long sleeved T-shirts in basic color; some years it is colder than others and these last months they have gotten a lot of wear. I love loafers with gold detail. My favorites, which are Coach, are no longer being manufactured in the style that is my size exactly. I scooped up every color I could find at that time but will soon be using these pairs up as time goes on. For summer I rely on crewneck Tees with just above the elbow sleeves with lighter fabric jeans. Let summer was so hot I gave up and purchased a light dress in 4 different colors and found 3 good pair of SAS sandals in good color options. to go with them. Vowing to not spend but keep my classics has somewhat been foiled by climate changes! Love your site.
Dianne, I so understand what you mean about climate changes. We used to have much colder weather in the winters and now we don’t, so I’m trying to find winter-like looks that are classic but lighter weight. I also have found issues with shoes since my size is no longer made. I guess this is what happens when we are lucky enough to continue living at an older age!
Hi Janis! I want to say again that I’m so happy you’re back! Also, thank you for listing the brands of things you’re wearing/carrying even when they’re old, e.g., the RL bag. Providing specifics on things that aren’t current is truly a thoughtful thing to do, because it means that if any of your followers loves something, even if it’s not currently being sold, we can look for it on eBay or Poshmark, to name a couple of places. There aren’t very many influencers that take the time to do this, and as someone who loves fashion, including (and sometimes especially) vintage, I really appreciate your doing so. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Judith. I will continue to do so where I can. I appreciate you letting me know you like to know. I really do wonder because I’ve not heard anyone else say anything about it.
I recently found and purchased on poshmark, the pale pink hand knit sweater you wore in a recent post! So yes, I am happy to know the details on your “old” pieces. My grandma always used olive oil to “condition” her hair. Love this blog!
Michele, I’m so glad you were able to find the sweater! Thank you for letting me know!
