How To Make Jeans Dressier
My outfit in today’s blog post and video combines jeans with a refined top. When I say a “refined” top, I mean a well-ironed cotton button-up shirt or a silk or seasonless-material blouse, instead of a polo or tee-shirt. Choosing a more refined top makes a jeans outfit feel just a bit more polished.
If my shirt or blouse also is in the same color as my white, ecru, black, or colored jeans (not blue jeans), the outfit feels even more dressy. Then, by adding different cardigans or blazers, handbags and shoes, I am able to achieve a variety of different looks from one pair of jeans.
Although my Ferragamo Sophia bag is no longer available (I bought mine at our local boutique in 2015), I occasionally do find it on the preloved market. Currently, Fashionphile has one listed in a soft pink and another in lemon yellow.

Thank you, as always, for visiting my blog. I hope the rest of your week is a peaceful and happy one.

My Handbag and What Is Inside
(ABOVE & BELOW) The Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia Bag debuted in 2009. I bought mine at our local Ferragamo boutique in February 2015. Unfortunately, Ferragamo no longer makes this gorgeous handbag. However, I do occasionally see it available for sale preloved.

(ABOVE & BELOW) This Bracelet Buddy is so helpful for difficult-to- fasten bracelets. I bought one for my mother and this one for myself 12-plus years ago.

My Makeup & Hair Products
(ABOVE & BELOW) This Dual-Sided Makeup Brush has become my favorite tool for applying foundation. The brush heads are so gentle that they do not irritate my extremely sensitive skin, and I can build the color gradually or quickly, depending on how much foundation I apply to the brushes. What’s more, it is currently priced under $10. I love this tool!
(ABOVE & BELOW) I was impressed with how well my eyeshadow lasted, even on a very warm and humid day. I applied RMS Beauty Unpowder Powder (also QVC, Amazon) on my eyelids before and after applying first my powder foundation and then the eyeshadows. Doing this kept the eyeshadows from creasing or transferring elsewhere. I used colors from Honest Beauty Get It Together Eyeshadow Palette (also at Ulta, Target). Thank you, Janis, I always enjoy your videos. Two comments if I may. Firstly, I do not like to see skirts that stop above the knees. Knees have to be among the most unattractive parts of the body. Secondly, as you have allergic reactions to chemicals. I am surprised you use perfume. Wouldn’t rose water or lavender water or something similar, be less contaminating?
Carol, thank you for your comment regarding skirts and your question regarding perfume. About skirts: I understand how you feel. Skirts above the knee are not for everyone. I like to wear them occasionally; probably because I like playing with a variety of classic looks. Regarding perfume: You make a valid point about rose water or lavender perhaps being less contaminating. I stopped wearing perfume in my late 30s, because I had come to the same conclusion. I would make a perfume out of organic coconut oil and lavender essential oil or patchouli essential oil. It’s why I stopped using nail polish, too. Then, two years ago, I found out I was allergic to coconut oil. I’d been using it for more than 20 years, thinking it was healthy. About a year ago, I decided to allow myself to be just a bit less restrictive, but only on occasion. I felt I was being so strict that I wasn’t living as balanced a life as I wanted. So, I made the decision to allow myself to wear perfume again. And also, if I want, nail polish (although I haven’t worn any polish yet). I only wear perfume occasionally, maybe once a week. And as I have mentioned in videos, I hold my breath and focus the spray away from myself at chest level, and walk into it. Just two spritzes. I keep it away from my face. Even less frequently I might allow myself to put a tiny spritz on one wrist. It brings me joy and I love it. It reminds me of when I was a little girl and my father would bring me perfumes from Europe in tiny little bottles. Splurging like this isn’t for everyone. We each need to decide how best to live in order to be as healthy physically and mentally as we can. Splurging sometimes, in small, but safe ways, feels ok to me. At least for now.:-)
Hello My friend,
I hope you and hubby are doing well! I’m so glad that you and family were not adversely affected by the horrific storms! We, also, live on higher ground. We are very grateful that we do not get the floods, but, you never know what will come next. You hit it out the park again, Janis! Of course, I love your OFD! I especially LOVE that beautiful blouse! So feminine and lovely; just like you! Very happy that you have “tested” the tides of sprinkling a little of your favourite fragrance. Trust me, you will NOT experience an alergic reaction. Just don’t drink it ;-)! I love fragrance and don’t leave home with it. I spray a dab on my abdomen and it, surprisingly, lasts. I adore your blue cardigan! The addition of your cream pants and accessories completes the gorgeous classic vibe! You turned me on adding Vaseline to my skin and makeup regimen! I love it! I use it every day and evening. I put it on the side of my “crows feet” and dab it on some lines that make me crazy. I constantly use it on my lips and never experience dry or chapped lips. To think I have spent hundreds of dollars trying to get results that give me what was in front of me for many years! Thank you, Janis! Well, I don’t want to wear out my welcome. Bye for now, my friend! Love and light, Sarah🙏❤🌟
Hello back, my friend from the north. I am glad you and your hubby are also on higher ground. Worrying about floods is awful. Getting them, even more so. We know a family in Naples whose home was flooded twice in the last few months–from both Helene and Milton. Thank you for your kind compliment about this outfit. I appreciate it! I do love the blouse. Probably my favorite of all my tops. I love, love your advice about not drinking the perfume. Your sense of humor gave me a smile. I will be sure and not do that!! I am thrilled that you love petroleum jelly, too! It works so well. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far. Be well and love and light back to you, Sarah. Hugs ~ Janis
Hi Janis!
Claudia again.. just got to your second video that has been sitting in my inbox for way too long.
Love the baby blue cardigan.. such a pretty color on you.
Also.. your skin look flawless! Last but not least I like the new music in the beginning of your videos.
Keep up the great work! I’m off to watch video number 3.
Thanks!
Janice, Thank you for your kind response to my comments. Very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.
