How To Know if a Hat is Right For Me
The day I wore this outfit, I forgot my earrings. I didn’t realize it until later when I got home, removed my hat, then went to the mirror to smooth out my hair. I always wear earrings whenever I go out, even if it’s just to run to the grocery store. At the very least, I wear a tiny stud. Maybe it’s silly, but I feel strange leaving my ear piercings bare.
When I saw these photographs, however, I noticed that I didn’t notice my missing earrings. What I did notice was the hat.
That’s the phenomenon of a hat. It calls attention to itself. Up close or far away, it’s the star of an outfit. That’s why it’s important to make sure a hat works with your face, figure, and outfit.
The way I determine if a hat is right for me is to have someone take a photograph of me wearing it–usually a quick snapshot with my iPhone. I’ve asked both friends and sales associates to do this for me in stores, and then I go home and I think about it. For special occasions, I also take a quick shot of me wearing the hat with the outfit I’ve picked out. A quick one from my phone, propped up against books, works fine for me.
In the end, knowing which hat is right for a person is a matter of personal taste. Friends have told me they prefer me in one hat over another–and each friend’s opinion has been different.
If I like the way a hat looks on me, that’s all that really matters.

Love every component of this outfit! Need to dig out my hats again…
I love to wear a hat and you look wonderful in this one ! The shape and band of this one is perfect with your OOTD. I never looked at print skirts until seeing your blog. This placement print is beautiful. Looking at your previous blogs, you look attractive in all hat shapes. I love the brown and red one from last fall. Do you remove your hat if in a restaurant or consider it part of your style? Every day is a fashion surprise with your Blog.
You, my dear, have been such a wonderful source of inspiration to me. I am changing my make up…….however having a hard time finding the correct color of foundation. Currently wear Jane Iredale foundation in Radiant. I’m having a very difficult time with acne. Hopefully the change to 100% Pure will help. On my way to Talbots tomorrow to get some new tops.
So happy I found a blogger in Florida. I live in Jacksonville, Fl.
Continue blogging please.
Lynda, thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your kind commenting! I’m sorry you’re battling acne. If the makeup doesn’t help, have you considered it might be something in your diet you don’t tolerate? I had breakout issues my whole life, and I found out in the last four years that it was dairy. It took an elimination approach to figure it out. Hope you found some cute tops on your visit to Talbots! I’m so happy to learn you’re from Florida, too! Thank you for your encouragement; it’s really appreciated!! 🙂 ~Janis
