Simple, No-Fuss Dressing

I’ve been investing more in dresses of late, because they make choosing outfits so much easier. Just one clothing item to think about–love that! Also, they keep me comfortable and cool in our extreme summer heat (and, lately, our very warm winter).

I found this dress last year, and many more navy and white dresses are showing up in stores right now. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite classic styles that are currently on line. The one I’m wearing here, in this exact print, is no longer available, but I found the same and similar J.McLaughlin dresses in other prints and I show them below, too (several are on sale, including here and here). They all are made of a seasonless material, which resists wrinkling well and makes all the dresses perfect for traveling.

Simple, Clean Moisturizer and Makeup

The day I wore this outfit, it was in the low 80s and I knew I would be spending a lot of time outside. I wanted my skin to look as natural as possible in daylight, so I decided to try using my powder foundation as a concealer, rather than an all-over foundation.

First, I liberally spritzed mineral-rich spring water all over my face. (Mountain Valley Spring Water, the same water we drink, and we order it in five-gallon glass bottles.) I used a 4-ounce glass spray bottle to spritz it on my face, and while my face was wet I applied a few drops of Bragg Organic Olive Oil (same olive oil we use on salads), and then dabbed on a little Aura Cacia Organic Cocoa Butter (which I first warmed up on the back of my hand).

After waiting for these to be absorbed, I then applied the 100% Pure Foundation only to areas and spots that I wanted to camouflage. I applied it lightly, so that you could still see my skin through it. I didn’t try to totally hide my discoloration and spots. I just lightened them a little. In other areas of my face, I didn’t apply any foundation.

I applied my 100% Pure Lipstick lightly, too, by dabbing it on with my finger, and then also used it as my cheek color. Lastly, I combed a little Pacifica Mascara through my lashes to darken, lengthen, and thicken them slightly.

I really like the final result, because it looks quite like real skin.  Just three makeup products, and all are clean (manufactured without harmful ingredients). It’s perfect for casual days when you want to look just a bit more finished than totally makeup-free.

I hope your weather is showing at least a few signs of spring, wherever you are.

Thank you for taking the time to visit me here!

What I Wore

(ABOVE & BELOW) After moisturizing my face with a spray of mineral-rich spring water (from 4-ounce Glass Spray Bottle),  followed by organic olive oil and organic cocoa butter, I applied a light amount of 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Powder Foundation, just on trouble spots (not all over my face), 100% Pure Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick, Cactus Bloom, on my lips and cheeks, and Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length and Strength Mineral Mascara, Supernova. I wanted to create a natural looking stain on my lips, so I dabbed on just a tiny amount of the lip color with my fingertip. However, if you want the color as bright as it is below, simply apply it straight from the tube. In this post, I wore it full strength to coordinate with my bright coral cropped pants.

    Hey Hi Janis,
So good to see your post in my inbox,it seems ages since your previous one.
Just adored all the navy dresses you modelled, they really looked so elegant on you and the unstructured
    look are my favourite.
Your light make up look was so pretty and natural. I despair when young or older women trowel it on so thick
with over done eyes and these awful heavy painted on eyebrows that seems to be the in thing.
Yes of course I feel for evenings out or a special occasion maybe slightly heavier foundation etc is needed but the troweled look is a no go. You have such beautiful skin Janis and pretty eyes and your make up is always applied to compliment your outfits.
I don’t think I have mentioned to you before but you have a lovely demeanour and a beautiful soft American accent be proud of who you are and don’t change,
I did have a chuckle when you dropped your bag, your response was so natural.
Well Janis I am being very complementary to you, and it’s sincere but there is bit of an ulterior motive I wish you would do more blogs and videos as I miss them especially the little excertions you take us on around Naples.
Thank you for this post I enjoyed it, oh yeah the other dresses you displayed on the models were very chic without being over fussy.
    Take care,
    Love Pamela from Wales UK.x
PS I have read on my favourite UK bloggers called Country Wives that bloggers are now called Social Influencers it sound nicer than the word blog!
Good luck in all that you do , I have much admiration for the time and effort it must take to send out a post. X

I always enjoy your videos and blogs. You always look fresh, attractive, and classic. The dresses are so pretty. Wish I had better legs to display – I’d buy dresses, too! My legs are so vein-y I’m embarrassed to show them. Anyway, I look forward to your next post.

    Have a lovely day.

    Hello Janis
I so look forward to your videos and comments. Your manners and ladylike demeanor is so refreshing in an age when so many address everyone as “Hey Guys”and use offensive language in their fashion and makeup blogs. You are my go to for makeup, skin care and fashion inspiration and you have many words of wisdom to share as well. I am sure to set up these videos is a lot of work but would be happy if you posted even more. You are a lovely person inside and out. Good health to you.

Hi Janis…really enjoy your videos. In addition to sharing a similar sense of style, I’m a former resident of the Naples area and it’s great to see you out and about at some of my favorite spots!

I’ve been searching your blog posts for the link to the glass bottles you use to carry your own salad dressing… I’d appreciate you providing the link to those bottles once again.

Thanks so much…have a great day!
