J.MCLAUGHLIN STORE TRY ON & WHAT I’M USING LATELY
J.Mclaughlin Store Try On
The day I stopped by J.McLaughlin in the Village on Venetian Bay, I simply wanted to have a quick look around. When I discovered so many pretty things to try on, I decided to get out my iPhone and film. The lighting in the dressing room was a bit dim, so my try-on screenshots from the video I show at the bottom of this post do not do the gorgeous, bright colors justice.
In my photographs above and below, however, I think the colors are much more representative of what they look like in real life, because in these shots I’m using professional lighting. Aren’t the colors lovely?
I ended up buying two tops and a skirt (which is reversible), but in the store shots you’ll see the other items I considered as well. They have so many pretty things!
So-Helpful Pierced-Earring Backs
In the video, I also talk about the earring backs I discovered for pierced-earring posts (Magic Bax Earring Lifters). If you are like me and have elongated piercings (or find that large post-back earrings fall forward), then you’ll appreciate these, because they lift, support and secure the earring to the back of your ear. Available in both sterling silver and sterling silver plated with 18k gold, they are hypoallergenic and come in a set of two. For a photo of mine, scroll down the page.
DIY All-Natural Face Mist
Something else I discovered recently is the wonders of misting with spring water. I have been doing this for several months, spritzing my face, neck, chest, arms, feet and legs before I apply organic oils, butters or a moisturizer (which lock in the moisture). I also mist my face after I apply makeup (to blend my powder foundation with my skin). I give more details below, including the glass misting bottles I use.
New Makeup Brushes
I have been a fan of the Sigma F88 Flat Angkled Kabuki Brush since I discovered mine about a year ago. Sigma saw one of my blog posts/videos about it, and contacted me to ask if I’d like to try others. I said yes, and I used several of those I received to create the makeup look you see above and below. I am such a fan of their brushes, because all Sigma brushes come with a two-year warranty and are synthetic, so they are cruelty-free and don’t absorb product.
For this makeup look, I used the F80 Flat Kabuki Brush that Sigma sent me, and I thought it worked beautifully. So, as to which flat kabuki face brush is better, it’s a tie. I found that both apply foundation easily and evenly, leaving a smooth, skin-like appearance.
Links to all the brushes I used—as well as details about exactly how I used each one—are located at the bottom of the page.
Wishing all of you moms a happy, healthy Mother’s Day tomorrow!

(ABOVE) This J.Mclaughlin Durham Ruffle Top comes in a variety of colors and patterns, including solids. I purchased the medium blue and the white (which I’m wearing). NOTE: My pink sweater (from Nordstrom) is available, too, and is actually a long cardigan I purchased two years ago that has been brought back again. (It comes in a variety of colors). For my original blog post featuring this sweater, click here.
By the way, this photograph and the one at the top of the page much better illustrate just how bright and happy all the colors are in the clothes I tried on at J.McLaughlin. In the photographs you’ll see below, which are screenshots from the video I took in the store dressing room, the clothing colors are darkened quite a bit due to the dim lighting in the dressing room.
(ABOVE) Sigma recently sent me a variety of products to try, and these are several of the brushes I chose to create the makeup look you see me wearing in the photographs above.
I love that all Sigma Beauty Brushes come with a two-year warranty, are synthetic–so they are cruelty-free and don’t absorb product–and they are extremely soft on the skin. They are wonderful!
For details on how I used each brush–and links–scroll to the bottom of the page.
(ABOVE) I discovered glass, fine-mist spray bottles in the last several months and ever since I have been using them to spritz myself with spring water. They are a wonderful tool for adding moisture to the skin, which I then lock in with oils, butters, or moisturizer.
I also spritz my face after applying my makeup, to set the powder and make it blend in with the skin. I love the result.
I use the Mountain Valley Spring Water that we buy locally each month in five-gallon glass bottles. We drink and cook with this water and only use tap water for washing.
(ABOVE) I have these Magic Bax Earring Lifters in sterling silver and sterling silver plated with 18k gold (shown here). I wear them with large or heavy earrings to keep them securely against my ears so the earrings don’t fall forward or pull my large piercings down. If you are like me and stretched your piercings from wearing unsecured heavy earrings too many times, you’ll appreciate these.

(ABOVE) Sigma L04 Detailed Lip Brush.
I love this lip brush because the bristles are firm and slightly blunt at the pointed tip, making it perfect for drawing a line along the outer edge of my lips (like a soft pencil). Other lip brushes I own have more flimsy bristles that act like a paint brush. These are fine for painting on all-over color but not for lining like a pencil.
