THE NEW CLEAN MAKEUP I’M WEARING IN THIS LOOK; AND MY RUFFLE BLOUSE!
Environmetal Working Group’s EWG Verified Seal
According to National Institutes of Health, 64-100 percent of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream. That’s why I am constantly searching for skin care and cosmetics that are the most hypoallergenic and least toxic that I can find.
The products featured in this post are not only considered clean and health-conscious, but most of them also carry the Environmetal Working Group’s Best/Safest #1 or #2 rating on their Hazard/Data Availability Scale–or, even better, they have the EWG Verified Seal. This mark on a personal-care, cosmetic, or cleaning product indicates that it meets the EWG’s strictest standards for transparency and health. The foundation, mascara, and lip and cheek products I’m wearing here all have this coveted seal.
By the way, I used the same foundation, eyeshadow palette (but different eyeshadow colors), colorless setting powder, mascara/primer, and lipgloss in my last Blog Post, too.
If you are interested in seeing a step-by-step video that shows me going from bare skin to the completed look you see here, that post and video will be coming out in the next week or so.
This Top Is So Pretty and Feminine
The ruffle-neck top I’m wearing in this post is from J.McLaughlin, and is made of a seasonless material that is wonderful for travel. It has three-quarter length sleeves that make it perfect for year-round wear, but it also is available in a sleeveless style, if that’s what you prefer. Every season it comes in classic colors like black and white, and also in new colors and prints as well. (See me discussing/modeling this ruffle top in my J.McLaughlin Haul/Try-on Blog Post/YouTube Video.)
I am drawn to wearing ruffle tops, because they’re so feminine, but this one also is as comfortable as a t-shirt, so I have collected quite a few of them over the years. In fall and winter, they’re perfect for softening the look of wool blazers and thick, scratchy cardigans. Scroll down the page to see me wearing this white one in a summer outfit.
I hope you enjoy this blog post (and the video at the bottom). If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit me here and read my post.
All the best to you.
~ Janis

Then I swept the same medium-brown color under my lower lashes with the Sigma E21 Smudge Brush (at Neiman Marcus). Lastly, I applied the bottom left dark-brown color to the outer corners of my eyelids with the Sigma E32 Exact Blend Eye Brush (at Neiman Marcus).

(ABOVE & BELOW) Lawless Forget The Filler Lip Plumper Line-Smoothing Gloss in Rosy Outlook (at Sephora). Cruelty free and vegan, this gloss is rated “Clean at Sephora” (brands formulated without phthalates, formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasers, oxybenzone and octinoxate, and more). Also shown: Kendra Scott 14k Gold Pave Diamond Band Ring.
UPDATE: I purchased Lawless Forget the Filler Lipgloss because it has the Clean at Sephora Seal. According to Sephora, the Clean Seal ensures this brand’s products are formulated without certain ingredients that are potentially harmful to human health and the environment and also address ingredients clients are concerned about, including phthalates, formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasers, oxybenzone and octinoxate, hydroquinone, triclosan, coal tar, methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone, insoluble plastic microbeads, and more.
In putting together this blog post and video, I discovered that Environmental Working Group (EWG) gives Lawless Forget the Filler Lipgloss a #5 out of 10 (moderate) rating on their hazard/data-availability scale. This is due to possible allergy, immunotoxicity, and use restriction concerns.
I will continue to use it for now, since I like the finish and moisturizing it provides, but I also am looking for a better EWG-rated gloss. 🙂

(ABOVE) To set my makeup, I lightly spritz purified water onto my face with this 4 Ounce Glass Spray Bottle. Then, I apply an organic butter or purified petroleum jelly to my cheekbones to lock in the moisture and set my makeup (see below).

Be careful to check the jar to make sure it is this version only (see photograph below). This is the only version from Vaseline brand that is 100% pure and purified, with no other ingredients.
NOTE: This purified petroleum jelly is rated #1 on EWG Hazard/Data Availability Scale–the same as organic shea butter. I now rotate petroleum jelly with organic shea butter, so that I don’t become allergic to either one (in particular shea butter), as I have to some other organic butters and oils.

Welcome back from a Canadian subscriber who enjoys your posts!
Hi Linda in beautiful Canada! Thank you for taking the time to leave your sweet comment.
Great video Janis! Love the look. I must try the Honest Beauty makeup and the Mineral Fusion. It was worth waiting 2 years to see you again.
Thank you so much, Susan. I hope you will let me know what you get and what you think of them. These are my first purchases from them and am quite impressed. I hope you are happy with yours as well.
Hi Janis!
I really enjoyed this last video. So many interesting things to think about and try.
First I loved your “diamonds by the yard” necklace set in yellow gold. My sister was thinking of resetting diamonds from a ring into a necklace like that and it was hard to find a picture of one that is not in white gold. The warmer metal really makes the stones pop! LOVE!
Also I smiled when you spoke about petroleum jelly as a moisturizer. My daughter who is a dermatologist always recommends it however I think it’s way too greasy for me. She is a fan of it though.
Also love the way the powder foundation made your skin look so smooth and translucent. I am going to try the cream blush that you recommended from Honest. I love cream blushes!
Oh.. last but not least I adore the way you mix metals in your jewelry. It looks fabulous and very elegant and today.
Thanks for the video.. hope you are well and have a lovely Thanksgiving.
Hi, Claudia. Oh, I love the idea of resetting a ring’s stones into a necklace. Also am glad to know your daughter is a fan of petroleum jelly. I so appreciate you taking the time to leave your wonderful comment!!! I hope you and your family have a happy and safe Thanksgiving season, too. 🙂
Janis, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Highly approve of EWG ratings. I already use some Mineral Fusion products, your video educated me on a few I had missed. Love, love your eye shadow look! I also have felt comfortable with earth tones for many years. Your system of application remains simple, which I like. Lately also have been wanting to try a powder foundation, and on your skin looks excellent! I love the recommendation of using Creme Cheek + Lip Color. I also feel comfortable with your recommendation of the lightly purified water spritz at the end over the make up! Thank you for pointing out the use of the mini fan! And of great importance to some of us – a big Thank You for speaking so softly and kindly to all of us! I’m 74 and have followed you for 4 years in fashion and beauty because of your demeanor!
PS: Coincidentally, I also had fun with this ruffle top style by J McLaughlin in ocean splash color design this past summer.
Noelia, thank you so much for your kind comment. Especially heartwarming to me is knowing that you find my voice soft. I have been trying to be a more peaceful, kind person during the last 15 years, so I don’t want to cause hurt, shock or discomfort to other people if I can help it. But, that being said, I don’t always feel I’m as soft spoken or gentle as I should or could be…so thank you for encouraging me 🙂
Hi Janis!
Do you not use the Gabriel cosmetics anymore? I was just curious if they caused a allergy reaction…also do you still use the salt scrub? Thank you! Vi Bichler
Hi, Viola! Oh yes, I do use Gabriel still.Love their products! But I know that those who read my blog and follow my videos want to know about other brands, too, so that is why I try new ones as well. Mineral Fusion Foundation is the first foundation I’ve found that has a match for my skintone, so that makes me very happy 🙂 Oh, and right now I’m not using any salt scrub –including my homemade–because I made it with coconut oil. In the last two years I found out through bloodwork that my body is allergic to coconut oil, of all things. Was so disappointed to find that out! I tried it a few months ago just to test it out anyway–only coconut oil–and sure enough, I broke out in a rash! Live and learn.
So glad you are back! I will try the new products. I have used Vaseoline for 30 years on my face and I have few wrinkles at 72. Great for my skin.
Thank you, Jeanne. I’m so happy to be back!
So beautiful, Janis! Love the idea of petroleum jelly on the cheekbones. I get so dry there. I have also wanted to try a powder foundation over my sunscreen. Thanks for posting.
Hi, Debbie! I’m so glad you learned some new ideas from this post. Thank you for letting me know!
Hello! Do you still use the Zuzu Luxe? I prefer a mirror for sure. And could you share the shades ? Thank you!
