DRESSING FOR A WARM-WEATHER NOVEMEBER
Welcome Back Snow Birds and Now The Holidays–and Season–Begin!
It’s Thanksgiving weekend in the U.S., which is basically the beginning of season here in Naples, Florida. What exactly is season? Generally, it’s when the temperature finally drops from the hot and humid 90s Fahrenheit into the upper 70s and low 80s, and the air is much less damp.
For that reason, many Naples residents who spent summer at their second (or third or fourth) homes have been arriving back in town during the last month or so. We call them snowbirds. Typically, they stay for the winter and all its social activities, then leave around mid-May. (High season, which is our busiest time of year, begins in January).
I love this time of year, because the town is absolutely buzzing and the shopping centers are busy putting up (or completing) their holiday decorations. There is nothing quite like twinkling white lights on swaying palm trees.
Behind The Scenes of Building a Christmas Tree
Rain was forecast the day my friend *CSG and I met for lunch at M Waterfront Grille–come to think of it, it was forecast the last time we met, too–but luckily it held off until later that evening, and we were gifted with a pretty, although slightly overcast, day in the lower 80s (Fahrenheit).
The restaurant is located in the Parkshore area of Naples at The Village on Venetian Bay, overlooking the bay to the north and south and, to the west, the beach road and its condominiums.
Several men were putting up the shopping center’s Christmas tree when I arrived, and it was so fun to see what the tree looked like mid-construction. It was lovely from the front–and with all its pretty metallic-gold and red bows appeared finished–but on the backside, it was still completely bare of its tree limbs. (For a peek, see my screenshots below from the video.)
The tree had its official lighting yesterday, so if you would like to see some pretty holiday lights, that’s one good place to visit.
Lunch at M Waterfront Grille and Health Food-Choice Compromises
I usually order a salad when out for lunch, and at the Grille I chose their Tuna Nicoise Salad. I would have preferred an organic meat, chicken or wild-caught shrimp, salmon or sardines on my salad, which is how I eat when at home. (Wild-caught salmon and sardines are lowest in toxicity of all fish.) However, these weren’t available, so I went with the tuna. If I tried to be as strict with my diet at restaurants as I am when I’m at home, I’d seldom be able to go out for meals with friends. (For more on why I avoid certain foods, see my post, Healing Chronic Health Issues: What I Eat and Why.)
I asked our server what she recommended for someone who doesn’t like her fish raw or too cooked and therefore dry. She suggested to go with medium, and I’m glad I took her advice. It was moist, but not raw. Meanwhile, CSG ordered the Grilled Cheese, which comes with a side salad. (See their lunch menu here.)
About This Pencil Skirt
Now, getting to my outfit, and in particular this chino pencil skirt. What makes it extra fun is that it’s embellished on the front with black bugle beads. It’s adorable! Although the on-line photograph of the (tall) model makes it look short, it isn’t at all. It’s actually 23.5″ in length and is knee-length on me. (I’m 5’8.5″, and I ordered the misses size 2.)
Although I’ve styled it to be casual, if you switched out my denim shirt for one in white and added a black blazer or black cardigan and black pumps, it would work well for an office environment, too.
For dressy holiday occasions, I also love this Sequin Plaid Pencil Skirt(27″ Length), Sequin Black Pencil Skirt (27.5″ Length), and Sequin Striped Pencil Skirt (approx. 27″ Length).
Have a great week!

(ABOVE) From afar, the Christmas tree appeared to be completed .
(BELOW) On the back of the tree, men were still inserting tree limbs. The construction of the tree was fascinating.
(ABOVE & BELOW) Although it was an overcast day, the view from our table at M Waterfront Grille was still very pretty.
(ABOVE) One reason why I love this hat and this style of tote is because both can be draped on the back of a chair when I’m at a restaurant. It makes things so much easier! The bag also comes in a slightly smaller size that looks identical to this one and also has the shoulder straps.
(ABOVE & BELOW) Mid-meal, I realized I’d forgotten to film what CSG and I had ordered. She chose the Grilled-Cheese Sandwich and I the Tuna Nicoise salad, and I brought my own dressing.
(ABOVE) I take my homemade salad dressing with me in a four-ounce glass bottle. For my recipe, see my post here.

Janis, I love this outfit. The skirt is the perfect length on you. I bet you are happy it has cooled off in Florida finally. It has gotten cold the past two weeks here near Atlanta. I would love to have a Cartier small tank watch like you have on but they are a little too pricey for me. I have a Citizen tank watch that I really like a lot.
Absolutely love yr smart casual look. You looking stunning as ever glowing with beauty & youth.
Thank you for beautiful pics Loved the christmasy tree just changes the whole atmosphere of a shopping centre.

I posted here as well. I find that commenters on YouTube can be so rude. Janis, you look great. The skirt is just precious. Elegant and stylish. Ignore the mean people and keep posting because it is inspiring to real people.
You are one of the most beautiful women in the world. I love to read your blog, your down to earth stories and I love to look at your gorgeous pictures. They are very, very nice. If you ever come to Germany please give me a call. I will be delighted to show you the most beautiful places here. Look forward to seeing you anytime in the near future.
Just had to say how much I enjoyed seeing The Village at Venetian Bay–I live near Orlando, but have been there many times and love the ambiance of the restaurants and shops on the water! So picturesque, but have never been there at the holidays, so was nice to see it decorated! I always look forward to seeing where you are going and what you are wearing–love all your choices in outfits, makeup, and accessories. I’ve bought some of your suggestions myself! I’m much shorter (and older!) than you and have dark hair so the colors aren’t always what I need, but I love the ideas you give us .I’ve passed along your website, etc. to friends who enjoy it also. Keep up the good work and have a great holiday season!
Hi, Jane! The Village is a pretty shopping site, isn’t it? And, since they recently had their tree lighting, I bet it looks even prettier now! Especially at night 🙂 I’m so grateful you enjoy my blog. Thank you for letting me know. I appreciate your continuing to come back and visit. Thank you also very much for passing my website along to friends. That is so kind of you! Hope you have a peaceful Friday and weekend! ~ Janis
Forgot to say I loved your tripod mount & accessories–want one for Christmas and think I’ll get some for gifts as well. So reasonable in price and a great idea! Thanks for that info!
Love the Cole Hann leather handbag! Super chic, and looks expensive without a big fancy label.
Thank you, Jen! Oh my gosh, isn’t it great when we can find a great bag and at a great price! ~ Janis
