BEHIND THE SCENES OF MY WEBSITE, AND WHAT ELSE I’VE BEEN UP TO
Website Redesign Completed!
As I write this, I am exhaling with relief, because my website redesign is officially finished.
Well…maybe I should say “mostly” finished. I’m still adjusting and adding things here and there, so it is a bit rough around the edges in places, but otherwise it’s done. Whew!
Because I’ve been doing this myself (I didn’t hire a website developer), the last two months have, at times, been…I guess the grownup word for it would be “challenging.” This kind of thing may be easy for some (most?) bloggers but, boy oh boy, not for me. I’m totally website-mechanics dense. I can’t tell you how many times the non-grownup part of me nearly flung herself to the floor in a melt-down hissy fit.
On the positive side, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, and that makes it worth it. (Fingers crossed!)
New Additions to JLJ Back To Classic
I think you would agree that, for the most part, my website looks similar to how it did before, which is what I wanted. However, there are some new sections that I didn’t have before, and that’s what I’m so excited about.
For example, there is my Shop JLJ Back To Classic page. (Thank you to those who already discovered and shopped it!) Here, all in one place, you’ll find my roundup of health-conscious makeup and skincare, and timeless, elegant jewelry, fashion and home and garden decor. (Plus, also eventually, recommended books and healthy foods.) This section is small now, because I’ve only just started it, so I hope you’ll check back again soon.
There also are some other changes to my website’s appearance–such as larger blog images, beginning with this post–but most of the changes happened behind the scenes to remedy major technical issues. In fact, these were the primary reasons for the redesign.
The biggest technical issue was my website disappearing into thin air. Twice. Literally.
I had thought any major problems were fixed. I even wrote about it in my last blog post (see it here). But, within a few days of that post, my website was gone. Absolutely nothing was there when I or anyone else typed in www.JLJBackToClassic.com–or even if you typed in any other link to my site. Just like that, it was totally gone.
The first time it happened, I called the customer-support line of my website hosting company and described what I was seeing (or, actually, not seeing).
The young, happy, male voice on the other end of the line chuckled. Then, still very merry–which I hoped meant he was about to deliver very good news–he said, “Oh, yeah. That’s ‘The White Screen of Death.’ ”
That was it. That was his response. I couldn’t believe it. So, I was sure he must be going to tell me something more–something that was helpful. But, he didn’t. He didn’t say anything else.
“Okay,” I said. “But…that’s not dead in like people dead, right? Because…people don’t come back when they’re dead. Right?”
Much to my relief, the happy voice assured me it was not like people dead. Although, come to think of it, he offered no explanation for it, or any actual guarantees that it could be fixed. What I gather is, my website disappearing must have been like a magic act, where a thing looks like it has disappeared, but it hasn’t really.
So, when my website went missing again a week later, I wasn’t as panicked, but I also knew I had to speed up my plans for a re-design.
Now, I’m hoping the back-end mechanics will operate more smoothly, so I won’t have any more hiccups.
Celebrating My Birthday
As to what else I’ve been up to, my husband and I celebrated my 58th birthday recently. When he asked what I’d like to do, I told him I wanted us to cook at home. In the past, we’ve gone out to a nice restaurant somewhere in town, but in recent years I’ve craved just being home alone together, doing something simple, fun, and nourishing–for body and soul.
For supper, we made organic baked free-range chicken, butternut squash, mashed potatoes and broccoli, and drizzled the chicken drippings all over everything. Also, organic red wine, and for dessert, chilled watermelon. It was all so yummy!
For entertainment, we watched a new television show that premiered this season on the Paramount Network. Called Yellowstone, it’s the fictional account of the Montana Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in America. The series is produced by Kevin Costner, who also stars as the patriarch of the family, and features gorgeous scenery, superb acting, and a fascinating story.
Lunch With *CSG at Timeless Eatery
Also premiering this season (in Naples restaurants and featured in this video) is Timeless, an MJK Eatery. I had lunch there with my friend *CSG, and show a few screenshots from my video below. Although I would have liked twice as much shrimp in my salad (it came with only three), I enjoyed the restaurant and my meal. It’s located on U.S. 41 near Central Avenue, which is conveniently close to all downtown Naples activities. If you’re in the vicinity, it’s definitely worth a visit.
My Shorts OOTD
When I wore this outfit, it was before Labor Day, so I’ve now put away my white sandals (and white skirts and dresses) until next spring. In the mean time, because it’s still scorching hot outside, I’d wear the shorts and tee, but I’d switch out the white sandals for some in silver metallic or coral. I’d also wear this outfit with a navy bag and navy sandals or moccasins. I love navy and coral.
Those of you in the beautiful states of North and South Carolina, which are the current estimated destination of Category 4 Hurricane Florence, the news says that many of you are being evacuated from your homes right now or will be evacuated soon. God bless and stay safe. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

(ABOVE) These were my birthday flowers from my husband. The crystal vase was a wedding gift we received 22 years ago, and the sterling silver bottle holder was a gift from my mother about 20 years ago. The deer, cat, and elephant Herend figurines are a few of those that have been given to me by my husband or my parents for various birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmases over the years. I love adding to my little collection. The rabbit Herend figurine was the parting gift given to me in 1997 by the staff of the last magazine for which I was the editor.
Scenes From The Video
(ABOVE & BELOW) I thought the espaliered vines on the front of Timeless Eatery worked well to soften and brighten the contemporary architecture of the building. (Espalier is the classic garden-design practice of training a plant to grow flat against a support, such as a wall.)

(ABOVE) CSG ordered the Timeless House Salad, which consists of spring greens, vanilla-cinnamon infused apples, goat cheese, frosted spice pecans and a vinaigrette dressing, to which she added grilled shrimp. (BELOW) I ordered the same salad, but with only the greens and added avocado. (I bring my own homemade salad dressing to avoid sugar, soy, and any allergens. Recipe here.)
