SHOPPING/DINING DISTRICT: Fifth Avenue South / RESTAURANT: Yabba Island Grill / RETIREMENT COMMUNITY & GARDEN: Moorings Park
Friday, June 10, 2016 / Vlog Post Notes
Last month I celebrated my friend Gail’s birthday at Yabba Island Grill on Fifth Avenue South in downtown Naples. For weeks leading up to that night it had been the perfect weather for sitting outside. That morning, however, the sky opened up and began dumping bucketfuls of rain. By late afternoon it was still raining, so I knew I had to rethink my outfit. I wanted to look cute–but I also didn’t want to worry about walking in the rain should I need to park some distance from the restaurant.
In the end, I decided to wear the same outfit I’d originally planned and change only the shoes. Instead of my Bernardo navy thongs, I wore my Hunter Tour boots (which are thinner and lighter weight than regular Hunter boots), and I carried an umbrella. I’m so glad I did, because I wandered around in the alley behind all of the restaurants for some time, trying to decide where the Yabba Island Grill was!
I love the look of rain boots with shorts, skirts, and even certain dresses. It’s a fun play of utilitarian against feminine. Unfortunately, the weather was so rainy I couldn’t shoot my outfit that night. So I decided to recreate it in a pretty garden at Moorings Park, the retirement community where my mother lives. I felt a bit strange wearing the boots and carrying an umbrella in a public place on a sunny day, but such is the wacky life of a fashion blogger!

(ABOVE AND BELOW) No more boots or umbrella! I switch to Kate Spade prescription sunglasses and Bernardo navy sandals before going to see my mother.

I have even been known to wear hunter boots underneath an evening gown. It was President Bush’s second inaugural ball in Washington DC and the weather was very icy and snowy. Wore them under my poofy gown and no one was the wiser until I sat down. (Burberry – so they looked cute even underneath the skirt)
Such a great video, please do Q&A,another vlog ,monthly favorites or monthly must haves video.Great looks.
Hi, Tiffany! Thank you! Also, I appreciate you letting me know what you want to see in the future. That’s so very helpful. A new vlog is coming this week! ~Janis
I love the outfit you wore to meet your friends albeit in the rain and i’m so happy that you wore your Hunter Rubber Boots, you look gorgeous, I always wear my Hunter Wellingtons when it rains, I hate getting my Stockings splashed.
Yes, isn’t that awful when the (often muddy) water splashes up all over our legs? The boots are so perfect for preventing that. Plus, they’re cute! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog and to leave a comment, Julia! ~Janis
