Making a Refined Outfit Preppy
One thing I like about the preppy style is how it can take an otherwise refined outfit and make it light and sporty. This Ann Taylor skirt, for example, when paired with the patent-leather Trotters wedges (so comfy, by the way) and structured crocodile-embossed Kate Spade bag, make a great business outfit, if topped with a silk blouse. But pull on a cotton mesh polo shirt and it’s a completely different look.
It’s the same idea with structured top-handle bags that also come with shoulder/crossbody straps. When I wear this bag on my shoulder, it looks more casual. Cross body, and it’s even more casual. Tuck the strap into the bag and loop the top handle over my arm and it’s ladylike prim and proper. I love being able to get several looks out of one single bag.
If you’re interested in the bag, although the navy is sold out, there are some still available in a range of other colors here.

(ABOVE & BELOW) When I want to create a casual, easy feeling with this Kate Spade bag, I carry the shoulder strap willy nilly in my hand. When I want a more refined feeling, I just tuck it inside the bag. Shoes by Trotters.
(ABOVE & BELOW) I’ve had these gold and pearl drop earrings for nearly 25 years. They’re such a classic in my jewelry wardrobe. See similar ones here. On my lips: Gabriel Lip Gloss in the color Venus. On My eyes: Gabriel Eyeshadow in the color Chocolate Brown.

Hi Janis! I’ve been following your blog & YT Chanel for awhile now and can’t thank you enough for all the great tips I’ve learned from you. I’m amazed at how beautiful and supple your skin looks. If I could only be so lucky! Pfffft! I would love to see your makeup routine. Any chance for a video of that? I’ve been contemplating ordering the foundation but wasn’t sure how you use the two colors. Thanks again for all the helpful advise!
Hi, Jeanie! Thank you for your sweet comment. I’m no makeup expert, but I’ll keep your suggestion in mind. I combine two colors since one was two light and the other too dark. I swirl a brush into one, then the other and brush all over my face. (Not under my eyes, though. Here I only use moisturizer.) Thank you for watching my video 🙂 ~Janis
Lovely look..simple & classic. .so well put together. Thanks a bunch!
Thank you, Laura! I appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog and comment. ~Janis
