How The Experts Were Wrong about Women and Colored Jeans
A while ago I read in a fashion magazine that colored jeans were “out”, and I remember thinking how sad that was, since they’re so darn fun and cute. Evidently, retailers care more about what women want than what fashion experts think–thank goodness–and colored jeans have continued to show up in stores. I’d say they’re now modern day classics.
The first pair I ever bought were bright pink and by Lilly Pulitzer. I think that was about six or eight years ago and I still wear them. Next came lemon yellow, then came two different shades of green and then, two weeks ago, I bought these cropped skinny jeans in both orange and magenta–and, recently, in lime. Yes, I’m addicted! (For goodness sake, they were marked down twice at PoloRalphLauren.com.)
If you are a colored jeans lover like me, both the orange and magenta (and other colors, too) are still available at Macy’s in a variety of sizes, and they’re all on sale. One or two sizes are left at PoloRalphLauren.com. If you’re new to the colored jeans look, you can’t go wrong with pairing any one of them with a white shirt or tee.
Bright on!

This shirt is the perfect compliment to the skinny jeans. Would you also pair them with a solid cotton knit in same color? Finding shirts that fit without looking boxy has been a struggle. i love your blog because you show us how to rework our closets and accessories. Would you ever video your closet organization? I like that you have a classic style but do not stick with a ” formula” style dressing. Dresses, skirts, shorts, skinny jeans, and sleeveless tops remind us that anything is appropriate if you remain classy.
Goodness, I’m so sorry I missed this comment from you, Missy! I like the idea of a column of color; it’s very elongating. I’m not sure I would do it with a bright color like this, but that’s just me. I’m probably more conservative than a lot of people. My favorite “column” colors are ivory and white. I know what you mean about boxy shirts. When I’m at a retailer’s site, I now search for “slim-fit shirt” or “slim-fit” whatever it is I’m looking for, and that helps me narrow it down to the non-boxy styles. I’m so glad you like my blog. Thank you for taking the time to comment, and again I’m sorry I took so long to respond! ~Janis
Discovered your fun blog via your YouTube videos and have been enjoying all your classic looks. Your long natural hair is glorious- so sick of hearing we should get it cut short after a “certain age”- phooey! Do you ever wear it braided or up? I’m curious; your skin is so gorgeous and you live in an intensely sunny climate- what kind of sun protection (other than some very cute hats) do you use? Couldn’t find a mention of that on your blog, but perhaps I missed it. Thank you!
Hi, Kimberly! Thank you so much for taking the time to go from YouTube to here! I’m with you and the “phooey” to cutting our hair just because we’re over whatever age it is they think we should stop wanting to do and wear what we want. I appreciate your comment about my skin. About 10 years ago I stopped wearing sunscreen on my face and then about five years ago stopped wearing it anywhere, so that I could absorb vitamin D whenever I’m outside. That’s why I always wear a wide-brim hat. I have for the past 10 years. But, if I am going to be outside in the sun for any longer than half an hour, I do wear an all-natural sunscreen that’s certified 94% organic. It’s the kind that goes on white, and doesn’t disappear entirely, so it does leave a slight film, because it has zinc oxide, but it’s less harmful than other brands. That’s why I use it. It’s made specifically for babies, and I love it. Here’s the link: http://amzn.to/2axs8bi Thank you for commenting! ~Janis
P.S. Oops, gave you the wrong link. I’m so sorry! It’s probably fine, but it’s not the exact one I use, which is UNSCENTED, which I prefer. I’ve not used the chamomile one I accidentally copied. Here’s the unscented one:http://amzn.to/2axxaEF
