Highpoints of this home are definitely its proximity to the beach and (ABOVE) the bright, open kitchen-great room.
If you are like me and are a fan of the Bravo reality television show “Southern Charm”, which takes place in Charleston, South Carolina, then you might recall Shep recently mentioning his dream of one day owning a home on Sullivan’s Island. I’m familiar with some of the beach areas near Charleston, but not this one, so I decided to go on line and have a look at the properties there.
This Nantucket shingle-style house caught my eye because of the stunning interior architectural detailing, particularly in the large great room and kitchen area. Originally built in 1966, it has been “meticulously” renovated (according to the listing site) and features four bedrooms, five and one-half baths, and a pool. I love the pastel blue and white color scheme in the main rooms, and the all-wood paneling in the master. It feels bright and beachy. As for the furnishings (which don’t appear to come with the house), I wish there were bright white-painted or lighter pieces of furniture and fabrics mixed in with the dark wood and leather. Of course, that’s just my personal preference.
My only other pet peeve is the layout. A home in this price range usually has a formal living and dining area as well, and this house doesn’t. It does have a small family room not shown, but I would use that room as the library/den/office (something else I expect to find in a home in this price range). Again, these are just my personal preferences. Otherwise, I think the home is lovely.
Located on the northeast end of Sullivan’s Island, it is currently listed for $3.6 million. More information and photography are available at the site of listing agent Gary Short, Palmetto State Properties. ~Janis Lyn Johnson
