CHOCOLATE BROWN WITH PASTEL PINK, COVID-19, & MY FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Coping With My Covid-19 Fears
I met *CSG for lunch recently, at True Food Kitchen. It’s been two months since I’ve seen her–or have been out socially with anyone, actually–and it was just so nice. The food was great, the restaurant staff all wore masks (over mouth and nose) and everyone was genuinely cheery. Oh my goodness, how much I needed that.
Restaurants and stores have been open for a while here–and I’ve ventured into a few non-essential stores–but I find it difficult to know what I should do. I want to stay safe, but I also don’t want to be inside for the rest of 2020 and 2021. Even I, a homebody, am becoming so tired of staying mostly at home.
So, for now, I’m trying to stay focused on the day at hand, and maybe the next few, and am not letting myself think about what will happen in the future. If I feel like venturing out to somewhere non-essential, I will. And, maybe in a few weeks, I’ll feel comfortable trying another lunch with a friend. We shall see.
How are you all…aarrgghh…handling this? I’d love to know. Please share, if you feel like it. I’m sure others would love to know, too.
My Pastel Pink and Chocolate-Brown OOTD
My outfit in this post is a color combination that I absolutely love. In fact, it’s why I asked my husband for this Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Neverfull MM last Christmas. The interior fabric is Ballerina Pink!
I typically bring out my chocolate-brown clothing, handbags, and shoes in the fall, because even though our weather is 96-Fahrenheit-hot-and-humid, I still want to celebrate the new season. I also love sweater sets now (and all year long, actually!), because I can wear the cardigan over my shoulders while I’m outside in the heat (or tie it around my waist), and then put it on in the restaurant or store.
As lovely as the color is, chocolate brown sometimes can be challenging to find in clothes and accessories. However, I did manage to locate some pretty tops, sweaters, bottoms, shoes and a bag, wallet and agenda in this color, and I show them all at the bottom of this post. I also show pastel-pink cardigans, pullovers, shirts, and shells as well. I hope you like them!
Five Years Blogging and I Feel Like I’ve Only Just Started
Lastly, I want to thank all of you who have taken the time to subscribe to this JLJ Back To Classic blog or my JLJ Back To Classic YouTube channel, Instagram feed, or Facebook page. It means so much to me, and I just don’t have the words to describe the depth of my appreciation. Thank you. Thank you.
It absolutely amazes me that I reached my five-year blog/YouTube anniversary in August. (Here is my first fashion blog post and my first fashion post and video.) How is that possible? I still feel like such a beginner. During these last five years, there has been so much to learn, both behind the scenes (putting a website together, for one!), as well in front of the camera. In fact, I’m still attempting to grasp the art of posing for these photographs, “modeling” in my videos, talking on camera, and vlogging in public without appearing as awkward and nervous as I always feel.
When I look back at some of my videos (and blog posts), I can’t help but cringe at my obvious mistakes (in outfits, makeup, modeling, and more). And, even though I don’t post very often or even consistently, you all still have found something of value at JLJ Back To Classic and keep coming back to support me. I am so very grateful.
I’m sure I will continue to be imperfect at blogging and vlogging–especially since I want to continue to do it all myself–but knowing you are so kind about what I present helps me have the courage to keep on going. Thank you for that.
Wishing all of you strength, safety, and health to get through this challenge around the globe.
Hugs,
~Janis Lyn Johnson

You look lovely in your pink and brown outfit! It’s always fun to see what ladies carry in their handbags or totes. Your organizer is even pink! I love pink and brown together and sometimes use a raspberry top. Chocolate and raspberries!
Hi, Donna! Oooooh, raspberry sounds wonderful. I’ll have to keep that in mind. I don’t think I have anything in that color. I love your idea to pair it with chocolate brown. 🙂 ~ Janis
Hi Donna,
You might have better luck and less leaks if you put everything instead of being sideways, with the correct orientation and using the key holder pouch on the ring to the left! ❤️ Super fun to see how others use their organizers. I am a mom to 2 children under 2 so I am all about maxing out the most space 😂❤️
Super cute bag!
Hello my friend,
I was thrilled to receive your email! Congratulations on your 5th anniversary! Those of us who are fortunate to be part of the “JLJ Back to Classics” community don’t expect nor do we want perfection. We love you for you! Perfection, to me is like art; very subjective. Besides, perfection takes away uniqueness. Your classic venue is what I love! I was so happy to have found you. I was never a woman who liked trends. I had a mother who always wore classics. To me there is nothing like a crisp white shirt, black or navy trousers, pearls, Gucci (or RFS ☺) loafers and red lipstick. You are THE quintessential classic woman. Love, love pairing pink with brown! Your outfit is gorgeous! So beautifully pulled together and perfect☺! Love your accessories, too! We ventured out the first time last week for dinning outside. It was wonderful! The only reminder of the very challenging times that we live in, were the masks and distancing. It was our wedding anniversary and I wasn’t going to let anything make me sad. Thank you, Janis, for being my example of classic beauty. I always look forward to your videos! Please stay safe, and enjoy the rest of the summer. Love and light, your friend from Boston, Sarah💖
Oh my gosh, Sarah, you brought tears to my eyes when you told me you ventured out because it was your wedding anniversary. I’m so happy you were able to celebrate, and do something special, rather than stay at home. Ok, now I have a question: What is RFS? I found something on line when I Googled it, a canvas tote. Is that what you’re referring to? I feel so dumb! I love your description of the outfit you’d wear with it…and of course, all with red lipstick. In fact, you have inspired me to bring out my red lipstick this fall/winter. I can’t remember the last time I wore red…? Thank you so much for your kind support and your statement: “perfection takes away uniqueness.” That is just such a lovely way to think! Thank you for that! I so appreciate hearing from you again, and am happy to see you are well. Love and light back to you, Sarah Jane from Boston. ~ your friend Janis in Naples 🙂
Janis, I am chuckling to myself! RFS is “reasonable fact similarly”! I’m the one that’s dumb🙃! Knowing me I must have screwed up! Now I feel so silly😂! What I was trying to get across was, any lovely, classic loafers would work! Honestly, I wish we lived near each other. I would love to share a cup of tea with you! Much love, your pal from Boston! Sarah Manfra🙋
Oh my gosh, Sarah, how hilarious!!!!!! You didn’t screw up. I just don’t know these things. I am awful at social media person. I don’t know what it is but it just doesn’t come naturally to me. Thank you for teaching me!!! RFS…got to remember that one. NOT a canvas tote! I’m chuckling because I am such a granny. I love tea time, too 🙂 Much love back to you, Sarah from Boston. ~ Janis from Naples
Janis,
One more thing. I contacted LV regarding my LV key pouch. It needs a zipper repair or replacement. I sent them very detailed pictures of the pouch and LV informed me that it was going to cost me $95.00+ dollars to repair or replace. Well, I decided either I am going to take it to a cobbler (I don’t even know if there are any near me. Lost art I suppose) or buy a new one at LV or Saks. Don’t laugh, but, the pouch is over 30 years old! My friend bought it in Paris at the LV store! Today, it costs $215.00. Back then I think it was $25.00! I just might treat myself😉! You’re not a granny! I am! There is nothing like good conversation with a good friend and a soothing cup of tea☕! Hope you and hubby are enjoying your weekend! ❤Sarah
Sarah, how wonderful that you took such great care of your keypouch that only the zipper needs repairing 30 years later. The keypouch gets a lot of use… Thrown in and out of bags… Pushed into pockets, etc. I hope your cobbler can fix it. That would be wonderful, and I doubt he would charge as much as LV. Let me know what happens. And I so agree, there is nothing quite as lovely as good conversation with a good friend and a soothing cup of tea. Take care ~Janis
Hi Janis,
Hope you and hubby are doing well! I wanted to share with you that I viewed two tutorials on YouTube regarding the repairing well loved LV bags. I now have a better understanding as to why it is costly to refurbish and repair LV bags and accessories. The folks that perform the repairs are truly articians! I was so impressed! My great-uncles were shoe makers in Italy. They immigrated to the US and started a business making and repairing shoes. They wore suits and bow ties to work every day! Although they were poor during the war, they were very proud. They left Italy (actually Sicily☺) to join their family in Boston with the hope of finding a way to support their families. When I was a child, I remember sitting on their lap. They always smelled like wine and cigars! I loved them dearly! If they were around today, you and I could have them repair our much loved LV bags! OK, I have overstayed my welcome today! Please enjoy the rest of your weekend! Stay safe, my friend. Love and light, Sarah💖
Hi Janis,
Just checking in with you. Are you affected by the hurricane? I said a prayer for you. Please stay safe!
Love and light,
Sarah
Sarah, it’s so kind of you to check on us. We were not affected at all, except for a little bit of rain. Very lucky! Or… maybe it was that prayer of yours. Thank you for that. 🙂 You stay safe, too, my northern friend. Love and light back to you. ~ Janis
Dear Janis,
Thrilled to see you posted on YouTube. Always enjoy and learn from your videos and blog.
Thank you!
Cindy, it’s so nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for taking the time to come over to my blog from YouTube to leave a comment. Stay safe and well. ~ Janis
Lookin’ good, Janny……..as you ALWAYS DO!! Miss you! G
Thank you, Gail Marie! I hope you and Al are happy and well and enjoying the cooler weather (and fire place) 🙂 ~ Janis Lyn
Hi Janis, like always you look outstanding and joyful. I love the bag I did not like the price. .😂 but you never know latter could be different when we love something stays in our minds until we get it. Brown, looks good on me but not pink so i wear it with a light blue. Watching your videos is like a good desert …. key lime pie from Key West you bring good vibes, good taste and fun to all of us. Thanks so much for been you.!!! I have been hibernating with the bears up in the mountains I just go out to play tennis, walk, hike church, painting and avoiding the Marker place🙄 is like a Publix, but (Publix is much better) Husband does the shopping but he went fishing for a month🤭 so I decided to make soups to avoid the market. I know is hot in Florida but is cool up here 50 degrees today. I just made cabbage soup easy and healthy. I freeze a lot. One thing about the virus up here especially in Highlands even while walking on Main street to cross the street we must wear a mask even little kids….. same in every store, business, restaurants . Their signs read: by Governors orders MASK ON to come in. I like that as everyone and their dogs are here.!!! actually they do bring beautiful dogs some of then have diamonds in their collars… We should be back in Florida by the end of October I really want to be near the kids and family before elections… blessings to all.
Hi, Alicia! Thank you 🙂 I agree, the price is not inexpensive. And I also agree that it’s about waiting and taking one’s time and not rushing, to make sure the luxury item is not just a whim. That is how I know if it’s true love or not. Good for you that you are playing tennis. That’s wonderful exercise–and fun. too. I always loved it as a child, but I was never very good. Awful, in fact! I’m terrible at all sports. Totally a klutz! Ugh. The weather is in the 80s instead of 90s now, which I think is much nicer. I saw my first car-carrier today, which means people are beginning to arrive from the north. You will be here soon, too. Drive carefully and have a wonderful trip down to Naples. ~ Janis
Hi Janis! I was so glad to see a new blog post and video from you! It’s always a viewing pleasure.
I hope that your COVID numbers in Florida go down soon and you can feel more comfortable going out.
As I had said before life in NYC is getting back to a new kind of normal.. everyone is wearing masks and washing their hands like crazy but I do a lot of my errands and outings as I had done in the past. No big gatherings but people get together outside in small groups on their decks and share a drink or a pizza dinner.
Anywho.. I LOVED seeing your Neverfull chock full of LV delights! Each one of your small leather goods is just beautiful and each serves a special purpose which is lovely. I also like how you mix and match Damier and Monogram. I have a Neverfull MM in Monogram with a cerise interior that I bought in Paris 2 years ago. I have never worn it with the sides cinched in but now I am going to try it. I like the rectangle shape it becomes.. very neat. I hope that the world “gets healthy” soon for so many reasons but as a selfish one I am just missing traveling so much. Seeing all your LV finery made me fondly look back at most of our trips to Europe where I have bought a LV or Chanel bag or a small Cartier bauble as a “souvenir.” It always adds to the pleasure of a vacation for sure.
You have inspired me to buy a pink sweater for the fall… my usual go to colors are black and gray but I’m going to branch out.
Thank you for sharing the pink and the brown color palate and all your LV.. it was an eyeful of beautifully made pieces.
Be well.. be safe.. let’s hope for peace and good healthy for everyone!
Claudia
Claudia, oh, I bet you love your monogram Neverfull–especially since you bought it in Paris. How wonderful! Oh my goodness, I was back and forth between the monogram and the ebene patterns, because I love, love the monogram–it’s my favorite–but because I have a monogram Speedy (the one I bought in 1994), I thought I’d probably be happier with the ebene. And I do love it, but I still think the monogram Neverfull is just gorgeous, because of the lovely vachette leather. You wrote your note to me a month ago, so I’m hoping you might have been able to do some traveling since then. I can imagine it would be so challenging for you–not being able to travel–since it’s your passion. If you haven’t gotten to, hopefully you will soon…so you can get your next, pretty LV or Carier or Chanel souvenir. I’m not a traveler–a total homebody–but I love living vicariously through others. Let me know if you do get do take a lovely trip, and what you buy, so I can enjoy it with you!!! Here’s to you traveling again very soon. You be well, too, my friend, and yes, oh yes, let us definitely hope for peace and good health for everyone. ~ Janis
*good health for everyone!
Hi Janis,
I’ve been thinking of you and hope you and hubby are doing well. I know there has been quite a few storms on Florida’s west coast. I hope that you were not adversely affected by them. Yes, I was very concerned for your safety. This holiday season is going to be very different for us. We are not celebrating with anyone due to COVID and my having COPD (thankfully, a mild case). We did have plans, but, my doctor was adamant about me staying away from people that do not live with me :-(. In spite of the challenges that we have all experienced, I am grateful for all the Blessings in my life. I am keeping the focus on that and will continue to pray that the vaccine is available soon. Please have a Blessed Thanksgiving! Stay safe, my friend. Love and light your friend from Boston, Sarah. P.S. I miss you!
Sarah, it’s wonderful to hear from you. We all faired well through the storms. No issues, except for lots of rain. Very lucky. We are doing the same as you and staying close to home, and away from most others, during the holidays. I’ve not had lunch with a girlfriend for quite some time–maybe two months or more. That was with CSG (Camera Shy Girlfriend), and she, too, is very careful about (and limits) her outings. Naples began moving into high season beginning in November, so there are many people here from all over the country now and more to come. I’ve decided to be “better safe than sorry” and am choosing to partake only in necessary tasks outside of the home–like grocery store, drugstore, etc. I’m glad you are listening to your doctor and taking care of yourself. It’s so important! Also, I just want to say, it’s so kind of you to write me your message here, even though I’m not posting anything right now. I’m not sure when I will be posting again; it may not be for some time. But I love that you corresponded nevertheless. Thank you. 🙂 I hope you and your husband have a safe, blessed, and happy Christmas together. I so appreciate you finding me and feel so blessed. Be well, my friend from Boston. Hugs ~ Janis
Hi Janis,
Best wishes to you and hubby for a joyous New Year! I was happy and relieved to hear from. I was very worried about you when I had heard about the storms. We are still staying close to home and just like you, only going out for dentist, doctors and groceries. I so agree the “better safe than sorry” way is the best way right now. Our holidays were very different this year. It was only the two of us and I must admit, I enjoyed it tremendously! We usually host my family and very close friends. My anxiety level was always was thru the roof. This is sad to admit, but, I only enjoyed the part when our guests left and I was able to sit with Wayne put my feet up and share a glass of wine! I know how much you enjoy your outings and lunches with your friends. I do, too. No worries, I am hopeful that we will be able to do that soon. The vaccine can’t get here fast enough, although, I will admit, I am a little skeptical. I will take my doctor’s direction and hope for the best!
Thank you so much for the email and kind thoughts. Please take good care. God Bless! Hope to hear from you. Love and light, your friend from Boston. Sarah💖🤗
Hi Janice!
Just a short note to say hello. Hope you and your family are well and that the past few months have been enjoyable for you even with all the limitations that COVID has put on us.
Everything is OK up here in NY.
I thought of you as I updated my LV small items..
I recently bought a Sarah wallet with a light pink interior as well as a new small cosmetic bag. I do see you have the same one!
I used Amex points converted into Saks gift cards for them. Had so many Amex points since there was no traveling this past year hence I didn’t need them to top off any airline accounts.
Hopefully 2021 will be a shiny new year!
Anyways.. hope you are busy and happy.
Fondly,
Claudia
Whoops! I just realized you are Janis.. not Janice!
Sorry..
Hi, have you stop doing your blog and YouTube videos?
Dear Janis,
Been thinking about you and hope you and hubby are doing well. It’s been so long since your last video and I must I miss you very much! We are doing well and happy to say we got our first vaccine shot. I’ve been a little down. Haven’t seen my family and friends in over a year. I am getting weary with the many “ground hog days”. I try to make sure I connect with family and friends on a regular basis. What I really miss is sharing a lovely dinner with my husband at a restaurant. What is going with you? How are you keeping busy? I read, on-line shopping (much to hubby’s chagrin) and watching documentaries. Good change is coming (I hope). Please stay well and safe my beautiful classic friend! Your pal from Boston, Sarah😘🌹
Everyone is wondering if you are ok. We miss you so much .
Dear Janis,
I’ve been thinking about you and hope you and hubby are well and happy. I miss your wonderful videos! Not much has changed. We don’t go out much since Covid and we don’t socialize like we used to. I do see a couple of my friends once in a while. I had a health situation in December. Thank God the doctors were able to help me. I had Iron deficiency anemia. This is about the third time I had it. Anyway, what have you been up to? I miss you very much! All of God’s blessings to you, Janis. Please stay safe and be well. Love and light, your friend from Boston, Sarah❤
I have recently watched almost all your older videos that I had missed before finding you before the pandemic. . Like everyone else, I miss seeing and hearing from you. I hope you are well. Know you are missed.
Sincerely,
Diane
