The League Club Celebrates its 30th Anniversary
Every year, The League Club of Southwest Florida hosts its annual Fundraising Luncheon to benefit the club’s Community Trust Fund. I always try to attend this event because it raises monies for vetted charities all over Collier and Lee counties. Plus, it brings fascinating and inspiring speakers. Lauren Bush Lauren was this year’s featured guest.
Lauren is the granddaughter to one U.S. president and the niece to another, the daughter-in-law to fashion designer Ralph Lauren, the mother of a son, and founder and CEO of the charity Feed. Maybe you have seen Feed’s popular burlap or canvas bags that sport numbers on them? The numbers printed on those bags represent how many meals or micronutrient packets were provided to children world-wide by the purchase of that bag. (This is is one of my favorite bags.)
This year, the League Club has graciously allowed me to give you an inside peek at their 30th-anniversary event. For scenes from my iPhone video–and to see what I wore–keep scrolling down this page. To see what some of the other attendees wore, see my other blog post, The League Club Fundraising Luncheon 2017–What They Wore.
Through the work of the League Club–which is an organization of current or past members of Junior Leagues all over the U.S.–more than $3.6 million has been donated locally during its 30-year history.
Cheers to such a wonderful organization!

(ABOVE) The menu was luxuriously varied.
(ABOVE) Lunch included pistachio crusted sea bass with glazed kumquats, fava beans, sweet potato mousseline, and cipollini onions.
(ABOVE) The Ritz kindly accommodated my allergies with a beautiful leafy green salad of tomatoes, avocado, and grilled chicken. (I brought my own home-made salad dressing.)
(ABOVE) Dessert included a serving of cake with a macaroon and creme brûlée.
(ABOVE) Since the dessert of cake, creme brulee, and macaroon ingredients included sugar, dairy or wheat–none of which I can eat any more–the hotel gave me a delicious plate of fruit (which I only remembered to photograph half way through eating, unfortunately!).
(ABOVE & BELOW) Coffee or Tea Forte Tea was served with dessert. (I chose English Breakfast tea).
