When it’s 90 degrees Fahrenheit and 90-plus percent humidity, I want to feel as cool and comfortable as possible, but I also want to still look cute. A simple top and skirt with flats is a favorite combination.

For dinner out recently, I wore this classic standby Brooks Brothers sleeveless cotton shirt I’ve had for years, and I paired it with a Max Studio skirt I bought two weeks ago. I especially like it, because it’s a stretchy, printed-jersey pull-on style with an elasticized waist. So stylish yet comfortable.

Although I could have tucked the shirt in, I wanted a more relaxed, summery look so I tied it at the waist. I also think it makes the shirt feel more feminine. Even if the skirt hadn’t had yellow in it, I still would have carried this Talbots yellow leather bag. Navy and pastel blue with yellow are such a pretty, fresh combination.

And before I forget, it’s not shown in the photograph, but I also had with me a white v-neck, cotton cable-knit sweater by Ann Taylor that’s about 15 or more years old. I tied it around my shoulders or waist while I was outside, and then pulled it on inside when I got a bit chilly in the restaurant. Along with a black umbrella and two straw hats, I always, always keep it in my Jeep so I have it on hand. The trick, of course, is to remember to reach into the back seat and grab it before getting out of your car. That way, unlike here, you actually have it with you when you want it!
