HOW I’M FINDING PEACE IN THE AGING PROCESS
When I turned 50 seven years ago, it was the first time in my life I felt old–and I didn’t want to do cosmetic procedures like injections or cosmetic surgery.
In this video, I talk about what prompted me to make a major shift in my diet two years later, and how it not only affected my overall health but also my feelings about aging. I definitely don’t look at it the same way today.
If you are struggling with the physical changes occurring to your aging body–or suffer from chronic health issues–I hope you’ll have a chance to watch my YouTube video at the bottom of this page.
If you only have time for a quick read, then you might want to have a look at my post Healing Chronic Health Issues: What I Eat and Why.
Here’s to all of us becoming our most healthy, joyful selves!

Super inspirational – as someone who is struggling with turning 50 a few months ago you give me hope . Very much enjoying your YouTube channel .
Ps ( hurricane Irma not Wilma .. and agree , hope all in her path stay safe )
Kelly, my heart goes out to you as you register the fact that you are now 50. Here’s to smooth sailing from here on in!!! Also, Kelly, thank you, thank you for the heads up on which awful hurricane is coming our way. I will fix that right now. I am constantly mixing up all the names of the hurricanes we have gotten in the past and… now…are getting… This one, I must say, has me more nervous than any of the others we have faced in the 33 years I’ve lived in SW FL.
I am 58 and going through a similar experience. I have autoimmune issues with my thyroid and Sjögren’s syndrome. I was a nurse in the Cath lab and electrophysiology lab until April. I couldn’t stay well. I caught everything. My coworkers came to work with sniffles and I got sick. Seven years ago I woke up one morning and had become extremely intolerant of all dairy. I am coping with these changes and feel blessed this is all I have. I think your post was wonderful! I was wearing the same sweater that you were wearing, while I watched your video.lol!
Oh my gosh, Kandice, I am so sorry you have faced all those health issues, and even had to leave your nursing position because of it. How wonderful that you are able to feel blessed that what you have is all you have. What a great attitude! Amazing! When you told me you were actually wearing the same sweater, I broke out in a huge smile! How fun!! Isn’t it the prettiest thing? The colors are so vibrant. Love the colors. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog and leave your comment!!! Here is to your healing all of your health issues! Hugs ~ Janis
Janis I love your channel, I think you are a wonderful inspiration to those of us who are not 24 anymore. Good luck with your journey. I will keep watching.
Thank you 🙂
Check out Medical Medium, he addresses autoimmune issues, mystery diagnosis that doctors can’t fix except put you on drugs for the rest of your life. I am hypothyroid, and have been following his cleanse. Check him out on Amazon.
Thank you for the information about him, Lauren! ~ Janis
What a great video! How heart felt. I had a lump in my throat. I have been following you for a few months now because I have some of the health issues you do. We also had the same taste in clothes. I have been lactose intolerant for years, so no problem giving that up. I am now working on sugar. That will be hard. Your video has further inspired me to continue on this path. I turned 59 a two months ago and know I have to do this things now. Thank you so much!
Judy, thank you so much. I appreciate your kindness. 🙂 Giving up sugar…I’m cheering for you…You can do it. Even if you start with baby steps, at least it’s a start. Every single healthy change makes a difference. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and leave such a sweet comment. I so appreciate it. Here’s to your healthy journey, Judy! Happy belated 59th birthday! Hugs and gratitude ~ Janis
I discovered your blog and YouTube channel a few months ago. Thank you so much for providing women over 50 with such inspiration and information.
I too, switched my life style shortly before turning 50 thanks to a well informed mother. She has always stressed organic, home grown, home cooked meals. So now a days our entire extended family eats basically as you do. Everyone has benefited.
All of us also use organic products for body care. I am curious as to which brand of deodorant you use? Many of us cannot tolerate the baking soda in it and struggle to find one without.
Coconut oil is our saviour. No one has any skin issues, not even the teenagers (although I know our diet plays a big role in that!). All the women eat a few tablespoons a day as it helps to support our thyroid function.
Sorry for the lengthy comment. I could drone on and on.
Please continue the amazing posts as I find them very uplifting and am always looking for your newest. Thanks from a fellow 57 year old who so enjoys this new chapter in her life!
Bea, how wonderful that your mother was so educated on good nutrition! Also, that’s terrific that you’ve gotten to witness the benefits of your healthy lifestyle in other members of your family. As for deodorant…At one point I used Miessence organic deodorant (it may have baking soda–I don’t remember), but I eventually found that plain organic, extra virgin coconut oil works just as well for me, since I don’t want to block my ability to sweat, just want to minimize any odor. About 6 drops of coconut oil under each arm works beautifully. That’s all I use now. I’m with you on taking coconut oil by the spoonful. I take a tablespoon with breakfast, spoonful with late morning veggie juice…It also does wonders for “keeping things moving” for me, if you know what I mean! 😉 Your comment is not lengthy! I could drone on and on, too (my video was 33 mins long! Yipes). Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving your comment. I appreciate your support! To your continued good health, fellow 57-year-old! ~ Janis
Thank you Janis for the tip. I will be trying it out very soon
I enjoyed hearing about your journey to a healthier lifestyle. I laughed about the ear wrinkle because I thought I was the only one that had that. You actually inspire me to try to make healthy choices. I have changed my cosmetics to 100% Pure and I really like the results. With food choices, well to be honest not so easy but I am thinking fresh and less processed. So keep up the good work..I enjoy your blog and Instagram as well as your YouTube videos.
Laurie, thank you so much for saying hi! I’m so relieved to know somebody else knows what I’m talking about regarding those darn ear wrinkles of mine! Thinking fresh and less processed is definitely a great way to start when it comes to your food choices. In my 20s my grocery store was 7-Eleven. My meals were from McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts. Oh my gosh! I certainly paid for it later. I so appreciate you taking the time to view my YouTube channel and Instagram, too. Hope you’re having a peaceful day. ~ Janis
Thank you so much for this video! I always enjoy reading/watching your posts, but I especially loved this one. I’m 67, and I thought you were in your 40’s. You’re very beautiful and stylish and always an inspiration. Thank you.
Oh my gosh, Judi, you are so sweet to say that. Thank you! I have to admit that videos and photographs, because of the lighting and the makeup, make me look a lot better than I do in real life! Truly!! Thank you so much for taking time to leave your comment here. It means so much to me! Cheers ~ Janis
It was so nice to hear about your health jouney and that you are feeling so much better with the changes you have made! Since my oldest daughter had many health challenges with allergies from the very start, I have had to follow strict diets with my children (no gluten, all organic, homemade, etc.) Even with all of our dietary restrictions, two of my children still had mild asthma and were itchy a lot. I learned about the website solveeczema.org which details how detergents can play a role in asthma and eczema not only for children but in adults as well. By removing all detergents (not just laundry, but shampoos, toothpastes, cleaning products) and switching to soap based products only, my children have not had any more asthma symptoms and any itching is greatly minimized. It sounds like you have done something similar, too. Thank you for your lovely videos and sharing your life with us!
Jennifer, thank you for sharing your information regarding solveeczema.org. How wonderful that you were able to find the source of your children’s illnesses. It sounds like a great resource. Great to know that removing all detergents, including laundry, shampoos and toothpastes, can make such a difference in asthma and eczema symptoms. I use an all-natural detergent from Whole Foods or Publix and have been contemplating finding something better. Now you’ve inspired me to definitely make that switch, too. Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap, which I use on my hair and body, claims it can be used in the laundry. I love it for stain removal (I use the bar soap for all stain removal and use it to pre-wash the wash cloths I use when I clean my face with water and coconut oil), so I might try that at least, to see how it works. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and watching my videos. I appreciate it. Thank you, again, for your helpful comment! ~ Janis
Oh my goodness!! I stayed up to watch this video when I noticed the alert on my phone. I am in awe of you!!! I’ve been following you since July and use many of the products you’ve mentioned. I’ve even gone as far as letting my color grow out because of eczema. I turned 50 six years ago, everything started happening to me. All within six months after turning 50, I was diagnosed with reflux disease, Barrettes Esophagus, diabetes, my childhood asthma was back and I was diagnosed with full blown menopause. My periods stopped completely and the hot flashes and moods hit. With all that I just mentioned, I was a mess and in shock! My doctor said I have diabetes because I was gestational diabetic with my last child. And only in my last month. So, I’m now living as clean and as organically as I can and love it! Live also bought several pieces of clothing you’ve shown as I am going back to classic pieces instead of trends. So, thank you so much for your blog and vlogs, they mean so much and are so helpful and fun!! You should really hold a seminar!!! Future business opportunity!!?
Lots of love and may God continue to bless you!?❤️
Karen
Oh my gosh, Karen, that’s so tough to go through all of that all at once. I feel for you… But you sound like you’ve come through it like a shining beam of light! I’m so happy you say you love living as clean and as organically as possible. That’s such a fantastic attitude. So positive and inspiring. Thank you for sharing that!! Your kind wishes and support means so much to me. You can’t imagine how much. Thank you so much. God bless you, too, and hope you have a peaceful day and weekend 🙂 ~ Janis
Thank you so much for sharing your heart, Janis!!! I enjoy your blog because you are a beautiful, graceful woman – inside and out!! Society only focuses on the outward appearance, but we are body, soul, and spirit! May God continue to bless you!!
Hi, Jayne!! (You are a JJ, too, like me) Thank you for leaving such a kind, beautiful comment. Your support is so appreciated. Society DOES focus too much on outward appearance, and it’s so drilled in to all of us. We ARE body, soul, and spirit. Thank you for the sweet reminder. God bless you, too, fellow JJ :). Hope you have a peaceful Friday and weekend wherever you are. Hugs ~ Janis
This was the most inspirational video for me…I am 56 and I go through a lot of the issues you have mentioned. I am ready to gradually make some diet changes that I am sure will improve the quality of my life. I admire you very much, I think you are a beautiful person and you are definitely my favorite you tuber. I discovered your channel a few days ago and I have watched most of your videos, So, thank you and congratulations !!! I am sending you lots of hugs from Romania!
Cristina, you are such a sweetheart to say such kind things and to watch so many of my videos. Thank you. I’m so happy you are wanting to make some diet changes. That’s fantastic! Every little step makes a difference and keeps you pointed in the right, healthy direction. From the bottom of my heart, again thank you. I am sending you lots of hugs back to beautiful Romania!! Hope you have a peaceful Friday and weekend there. ~ Janis
Thank you for sharing this video. I’ve enjoyed your blog for a few months now! Saving your link to check out the books you mention.
Hi, Marysue! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment. I’m thrilled you’re interested in learning more about healthy eating. That’s fantastic. Every change gives your body that much more of a chance to be it’s strongest, healthiest, most vibrant self. Here’s to your healthy journey! Hugs ~ Janis
Thank you for an inspiring video! I am in my forties and plan to age naturally. It was so nice to hear your story and to know you look so beautiful by eating well and caring for yourself. Thank you for sharing!
Hi, Debbie! I appreciate you watching the video. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it 🙂 ~ Janis
Janis – hello from the UK! I’ve been following you since the beginning and really value your quiet sophisticated style in the midst of all the screamers on YouTube!!! I have a question. As a sugar addict who is determined to get off it – how did you go about ensuring you were sugar-free? I get that cakes, chocolate are the worst but do you check all labels for sugar and sugar-like ingredients? What are these? (I know honey; and someone told me that anything ending in -ose is sugar! I’d really like your advice as you seemed to stop it easily.
Hi, Anna from the UK. That’s a great question. The easiest way for me to avoid all the things I don’t want to eat is to first of all eat mostly fresh or frozen whole, plain food (nothing with sauces are seasonings). When I’m at a restaurant, I do the same thing. I order plain, unseasoned foods. If I am going to buy a canned or packaged item, I thoroughly read all labels, which it sounds like you’re already doing. If there are any items on the label that are not a whole food like meat, vegetable, fruit or spice I stay away from it. If it’s something I would like to buy but I don’t recognize everything on the label, I will look it up on my iPhone before buying it. I don’t buy anything without knowing exactly what every item is in it. I buy a lot of frozen foods that are just frozen vegetables and nothing else or just refrigerated meat or chicken, or just packaged organic rice crackers, rice, quinoa, buckwheat, etc. and nothing else. There are a few items that I will buy that have a little sugar or honey or agave nectar in them. If it’s an organic lunch meat, for example (no artificial preservatives) and it says it contains honey, I look to see how much sugar content per serving. If it is less than 1 gram per serving I will buy it (the one I buy is 0 grams of sugar per serving). I will eat that maybe once or twice in a week. I just found some organic breakfast sausage yesterday that has organic cane sugar but only 2 grams per serving. I will eat that maybe once or twice in a week (and if I do, I won’t have the lunchmeat that week). But, that being said, I buy a package of those sort of meats maybe once in a month (maybe twice in a month a few times over the last few years) and sometimes go months at a time without buying either, and when I do allow myself to have them I eat a serving maybe 2 or 3 times in a week (but usually less). The only other item I buy that has some sweetener is organic baked beans. Now, I haven’t bought any in over a year, but if and when I do again I will buy the one with the lowest sugar content (I think the last one I bought was 6 or 8 grams of sugar per serving). When I put the contents in the pan to heat it up, I dilute it with equal parts spring water, then thoroughly drain them before serving, so that there is pretty much no sugar left on the beans. Only the flavor of the sauce. When I am cooking from scratch, which is the majority of the meals I eat, I never add any sweetener of any kind. I hope all this rambling makes some sense. Thank you again for your question, Anna. Cheers ~ Janis
P.S. I need to add that I only started allowing myself to bring back a few items that had scant amounts of sugar per serving after I had been on the diet for some time. Initially, I went off of all sugar — I didn’t buy anything with any sort of a sweetener in it.
Thank you, Janis, for sharing so honestly. This was very encouraging. I’m 56 now. I’ve been making some of these same changes and have seen great improvements in my over all health. I also like the fashion ideas you share. Keeping things positive and being thankful is so important. Thanks! Barb
Hi, Barbara! I’m so happy you have been seeing improvements from making some of these changes! That’s wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know here. Hugs, Janis
Dear Janis,
Please be safe with the threat of Hurricane Irma hitting Florida, as I mentioned to you before my husband and our two teenagers were on holiday in Orlando and then we drove to Naples before we headed for Miami to sail to the Bahamas and when I look back it was September time but thankfully then In 1995 the weather was beautiful.
As always I love your blog and this last post was very interesting about health issues as we get older.
I am now 63 and I I reverted to eating simply, there are far to many processesed foods on offer and I truly believe it is out of control and the amount of chemical additives is mind boggling . It is a subject that could be discussed for days, but it is the end of the day here in Wales UK ?? I am now in bed and will be asleep shortly but I will pray for those in the path of Irma..
Take care,
Pamela x
Pamela, thank you so much for your good wishes for our safety. It was so appreciated! All is well with us now, although so much of nature was destroyed or injured terribly. About today’s modern-day food…oh my gosh, I agree with you about the amount of chemical additives in our food being mind boggling. It’s just awful. Hope you are having a beautiful weekend in Wales! Hugs, Janis
Hello Janis, I have been following your blog/vlog since last Spring, but have never posted until now. I just wanted to pass along well wishes your way in the face of impending hurricane Irma. Stay safe. I am certain that I’m not the only “follower” thinking of you, and Naples, and the entire state of Florida at this time…
Hi, Wrennie. What a pretty name! Thank you so much for your well wishes during this awful storm. We were so lucky to have our home and selves spared (and same with our friends here). I appreciate your kind thoughtfulness. Thank you so much. Hugs, Janis
Hi Janis, absolutely loved your video and the heartfelt journey you shared! Do you have a favorite coconut oil you could recommend as we have just started cooking with it and also started a spoonful about twice a day.
Thanks so much !!
Bev, I’m so happy you enjoyed my video. Thank you so much for letting me know. As for favorite coconut oil…It would be whatever is the least expensive that is organic, virgin, unrefined coconut oil. Here in Naples the least expensive ones I’ve seen are the Whole Foods Market and Publix Grocery Store brands of organic virgin unrefined coconut oils. Both are great. I take them as a supplement like you do each day and also use them to cleanse and moisturize my face and moisturize my body. Hugs, Janis
Janice- I hope you and your husband are safe. My prayers go out to all in the path of the Irma.
Thank you so much, Kim, for your well wishes during Irma. They were much appreciated! We were lucky ourselves, since no family or friends or homes were injured. Many others locally suffered flooding that destroyed their homes…lost their pets. So awful. Nature truly is something…All the best to you. Hugs, Janis
I discovered your blog this year when I decided to embrace my grey/white hair. You are so stylish and beautiful. What I love most about you is the gift you give to all of us in sharing your appreciation for life and all things beautiful great and small. Do not underestimate your gift. Hope you are safe and well.
Cheryl, what a kind, beautiful comment. Thank you. I’m so happy to meet another happily-grey girl, too. How wonderful! My family and I are safe and well. I appreciate you asking. 🙂 All the best to you, sweet Cheryl. Hugs, Janis
I was wondering so many of the YouTubers use retinol I was wondering what your thoughts were on that. And also what type of soap do you use on your face I have only been able to use CeraVe. Thank you for your inspirational video.
Hi, Lynn! I used a well-known drugstore brand of retinol about 10 years ago for 2 years and developed an allergy that began to affect the nerves in the eyelid of one of my eyes. I had difficulty opening it every morning. I was very scared. I couldn’t imagine what could be causing it, but the only thing new over the past few years had been this cream so I quit using it immediately. The next morning and thereafter my eye was back to normal. Years later I told this to a girlfriend who said the same had happened to her. So, I don’t feel safe using even a natural/organic version. My body did not like it! As for face soaps, I’ve been using Dr. Bronners Unscented Bar Soap. Thank you again! Hugs, Janis
What a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing this with us. I have been following from almost the beginning but have never commented before. I am interested in hearing more about what you put on and in your body and sharing your techniques.
Thanks again.
Hi, Christine! Thank you so much for sticking with me for so long! I appreciate you letting me know what you’d like to see in the future. That’s so helpful. Hope you’re having a peaceful weekend so far. Hugs, Janis
I hope you and your family are ok I heard the hurricane changed route and it was going to Naples. Praying for all of you.
Hi, sweet Melania! It’s so wonderful to hear from you on my blog. 🙂 Thank you for all of your wonderful prayers. They have been very appreciated. You have always been such a beautiful support to me. Thank you. I hope you and your loved ones are well and having a peaceful weekend. Hugs, Janis
Glad to hear you and your husband are doing good, hope all of your friends are too. I know I don’t comment on your blog just on YT but that doesn’t mean I don’t ck it because I do every time I watch 1 of your videos. But there was no video that weekend and I wanted you to know I was thinking and praying for all of you.
Hi Janis, like you I just turned 57 this month. i agree with you on the premise that illnesses usually associated with ageing are attributed to chemicals from food. In most cases skin issues are most likely caused by chemicals in skin care products or cosmetics that we use. I have started changing my diet – gave up rice in particular but switched to brown and already noticed some changes in my body(exercise helps a lot). For us Asians(i’m from the Philippines) rice is a staple so it will be a huge challenge to totally give it up but I’ll have to eat less frequently. Hopefully, when I start eating more natural foods my osteoarthritis and carpal tunnelx symptoms will be reduced drastically. Also, I’m trying to lose weight. I’m really happy that my cholesterol is much lower than before. I’m inspired by your Youtube video so I’m thinking of switching to organic skin care products. I admit to using chemical laden skin care products. Do you use castille soap on your body? You really are blessed especially being married to a good man. Sad to say I wasn’t as blessed as you are in the marriage department but I’m grateful for having wonderful children who have given me great joy. Also, I can say that after my marriage failed I’m much more closer to my God more than before. God has been my refuge and strengh. I’m blessed that I ‘ve stumbled upon your channel. I’ve been looking for Youtube videos that address issues and concerns of women who are close to my age. Thank you so much. God bless
this sounds great..i need to take care of the inside.. i started to remove sugar and dairy..i will continue to eat better..organic foods are next.. thank you very much..
Thank you so much for your blog! I found you a few months back when I was looking on youtube for how to dress in your 50s and do makeup. I just turned
47 and want to grow older gracefully like you. I eat a lot like you do and have long hair like you but it is dark blond. I haven’t noticed any gray hair yet. I actually think your silver hair is so beautiful and it made me not fear getting it. You are so pretty inside and out.
I am now 79 and fast approaching 80. I did not worry about aging until 70 and have done most of the diet changes you mention. I have decided, after seeing so many dissatisfied looking women in my age group, that the best cosmetic for my age is a smile. I will never be young again but I am perfectly capable of smiling, giving encouraging words to others, laughing freely and frequently and then smiling some more.
I LOVED watching this Janice…I too have many niggley health issues now I’m older, most of them autoimmune in nature, getting to grips with them is a huge challenge. I’m totally sure it has a lot to do with menopause and the decline /absence of oestrogen. I have made a few changes to my diet, but not as many as you….I think I will have to go further now if I want to help myself, I have to do better. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, it’s very inspiring x
Wonderful video, Janice. Thank you for sharing all of your heart-felt opinions and great nutritional information. I have read and love the Grain Brain book and have recommended it to so many people. You look wonderful and healthy – a natural beauty!
Janis, I just happened onto your video the other day while watching some YouTube on the television. Loved it! I’m 65 now, and if I could turn the clock back to any age, it would be 52. I really don’t have any desire to be younger than that! No particular birthday has given me a jolt, but getting my Medicare card in the mail did!
Hello Janis ~ I hope you fared well with Irma. We are all watching the follow up with broken hearts and our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of the people affected by this tragedy.
On a happier note, I really enjoyed this video. I have an adult special needs son and we both have issues with grains and dairy. We have only just started a diet very similar to yours so this video was certainly timely. My biggest problem is breakfast. We usually ate oatmeal but that is no longer allowed. I can manage lunch and dinner but I’m wondering how you handle breakfast. Could you possibly give some examples of what you eat? I have learned so much from your videos and I enjoy each one. Please keep them up as there is a real need for this. I am 61 and it just goes to show you are never too late to learn.
I would like to know which coconut oil you use for your face and body. I loved and enjoyed your vidoe, first time listening to you. You really blessed me. Thank you for sharing such great information.
Janice, you are empowering and inspirational as always. I love how raw and real your are! Truth be told, I am sure there isn’t a woman out there who has not had the same concerns regarding aging. You make it okay to explore that. You share in a manner that shows you truly get it. I love your style but for me the appeal of your blog is that it is NOT yet another person spouting about how we should all dress nicely. Instead, your appeal is not only about your clothing, appearance and obvious grace. It is about how your light shines and that in turn makes you beautiful. These are lessons I have taught my 22 year old daughter! Thanks for the reminder of what truly matters. You are clearly a woman of substance! Valerie
blessings you generous souL ! XO
Hello, please share how you coped/ are coping with the menopause. It would be great to hear your perspective, especially if you have found a natural way, but any shared wisdom will be very helpful. Thank you.
Hi Janis.
You look so beautiful! You look better than so many people in their thirties!
I can’t believe you make up all this stuff about yourself! Drippy skin? Not true. Hound dog face? What??! You had never had cellulite before?! How did you do it?!
You’re really specially beautiful. Surely, looking very young. And way better than many younger than you people.
And you’re so articulate.
Thank you for the authenticity in your video post. You inspire me to focus on health and joy and let the physical beauty catch up with all the good that is happening on the inside. There is nothing more beautiful than a heartfelt smile. Please know how much I appreciate your honesty and sincerity. I follow you from Hong Kong and wanted you to know how much I appreciate your advice and style.
Hello JLJ. This is a wonderful video! I’m 57, male and prefer simple, natural, products for my skin and hair. I had to laugh about your comment on earlobe wrinkles. A few years ago I had the same experience- noticing them on some one else and thinking, “Wow, I don’t want wrinkles in front of my earlobes!” I now have the beginnings on my left ear. Oh well. Time marches onward. Anyway, you had me with that comment and I thought, “Okay, I’m down with whatever tips she has to share”. Turns out I already use some of the products you suggest like Dr. Bonner’s liquid soap and ACV for a rinse. Other tips were new to me, for example, coconut oil to clean my face and as an underarm deodorant (great idea).
I periodically check your youtube channel for additional health related videos and…wish you would do more! I realize your channel is tilted more towards style (for women) but, I should think anyone benefit from your excellent health tips.
Thanks for the video. In closing I’ll add…your long, naturally grey hair is beautiful!
I love your channel! I would love to see photos of you before your health transformation, I always find those fascinating!
Bright blessings and keep up the great work on your channel and blog! I would love more health related videos .
You are very self-centered and obsessed with outer beauty. You go on and on and on about yourself. Do you know how boring that is? Did you ever have children? When you’re taking care of your religious or spiritual self, you’ll shine. Try taking the focus off yourself for a change, and do for others. Outside beauty means nothing if you’re not beautiful on the inside. More people should be caring about others. The world would be a much better place!
Do you know her personally? I don’t think it’s fair to say that she doesn’t focus on others if you don’t know that for a fact.
I haven’t watched all of your videos, so I may have missed this, but do you use essential oils? I have my own health journey and use mostly organic makeup. My favorites include 100% Pure, Jane Iredale and AnneMarie products.
Hi, Ramona! I like to use organic lavender mixed with coconut oil and patchouli mixed with coconut oil to make natural perfumes. I’ve not heard of AnneMarie makeup. I will have to look it up! ~ Janis
Thank you for posting this video and creating this blog. I’m 40 years old, and going through a divorce. Despite having two young kids running around, I am feeling very, very old. I’ve always looked young and maybe still do, but when I look in the mirror now, I’m horrified by the signs of aging that I didn’t realize were there: new wrinkles, lax skin, my first gray hairs. I’ve become obsessed in the past year with researching cosmetic procedures and have been making a plan for everything I “need” to do — botox, fillers, lasers, etc, as well as all the aggressive topicals. This obsession on my aging appearance has been really damaging at such a low time in my life.
Yesterday, I looked up images of women aging naturally, and your image came up, among others. I found you and them all so lovely. I want to be a 95 year old woman with an interesting face, not a face-lifted face. But that means that I’m going to have to accept the road that leads there. You actually look similar to me, which is what struck me when I first saw your image, so it was especially healing for me to see you as beautiful. I have a similar face shape and identical hair.
It made me cry to realize how my standards of beauty didn’t allow for me getting older. I don’t want that. I want to be happy, healthy and beautiful not because of how I look, but how I love. Thank you for giving me the courage to let go of my perfect youth, while aging gracefully.
Hi JLJ. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the video you said many things that we know, but We not apply for some reason. I love to hear about your suplem the you use, I would like to know about you said it the hydrochloric acid. Thank you for your time.
Nice video. I am on here trying to find a way to handle aging. I have looked especially young all my life, but I know the day is gonna come that I am gonna look up and see an old man! I am not sure I will be able to handle it. Looking younger by 20 years or more than all my peers is almost my identity. And soon I fear I will lose it. I have noticed a few wrinkles and I just noticed that my neck has a small sagging to it. I know a guy is not suppose to let this get to him and to own my aging like a man but I can’t do it yet. Your video said some good things like concentrating on health and not looks. I am trying and will try harder.
My question for you is how did you get your neck so tight? Did your diet change really help that much? Thanks in advance if you can answer my question.
PS I read some mean blogs that said your self centered. Ignore them. I am right there with you. WE are all different and different things bother different people.
Danno
Hi, Dan! Just because you’re a guy doesn’t mean you you’re not allowed to have the same feelings about aging that women do. All of us equally feel the frustrations of aging. As for my neck…some of it may be genetic, since both my parents tended to have a similar situation. My upper body in general has always been the slimmest part of me (I’m a pear), so this may have something to do with it. I don’t have much fat on my neck. Where I do have sagging skin is on my lower jaw line and, of course, under my eyes where I now have bags. As I said in the video, it was a shock when I first saw them in that mirror with overhead lighting, but after accepting it, it’s much easier. I just try to maintain a happy, grateful attitude, regardless, and like you noted, focus on my health (mental, physical and spiritual). It really helps. Also, what makes it a little easier is knowing that we’re all going through the same process. As for how the diet change affected my skin…it has given me a healthier color to my skin, I think (more olive and not quite as pale), and I don’t have the breakouts like I did before the change. It didn’t affect my neck really. Something that may have helped is that I always wore sunscreen when I sunbathed. Sun damage seems to change the elasticity of the skin. As of age 30, I stopped sunbathing for the most part. Now, I just do it for about 15 or 20 minutes for the vitamin D and always cover my face, neck and chest. Thank you for your kind words regarding the unkind comments. I think that maybe some of the commenters didn’t understand why I was sharing all of my feelings. My reason was so that others who might feel the same wouldn’t feel alone. I felt very alone and scared (about my declining health) when I first started going through it all. Thank you again, Danno!! ~ Janis
Danno, also, I don’t wear sunscreen now unless I’m going to be in the sun for more than maybe 45 minutes. We can’t absorb vitamin d when we wear it, unfortunately.
Thanks for your reply Janis! A little more about me: I was a body builder (natural) for about 15 years and still work out occasionally. I really believe the exercise made a big difference in my aging. I think everybody should do that to the degree they can handle it. I am a Graphic Designer and have always been prone to go after what looks good. Vanity I suppose, but that is me. It is frustrating that I can manicure my lawn and remodel my house, but when it comes to myself (to some degree) I am helpless. I hope I can change my focus from looks to health. Again thank you for your kind words. Danno
Hi, My name is Pat and I live in Lincoln, UK. Like you, I have given up (just about a week now) bread of all kinds, soya – several years ago and most dairy except for butter. I am 74 years old – considerably older than you.
By the way, I think you look terrific – lovely skin and eyes, so the diet obviously agrees with you.
I have of course passed the menopause period, but sadly it has affected my love-making in that I am now very tight and dry, so it is very uncomfortable, not to say painful. Have you noticed any of the above symptoms and did they subside once you went on to your diet?
I, too, went onto my present diet because I have been suffering now for about 15 years with osteoarthritis and cystitis from time to time, and I am hoping that it will improve.
All the very best to you with your diet, and if you have a moment to write back it would be lovely to hear from you.
Very best wishes,
PAT
Janis, I just watched this video and am interested in finding out if you still use the coconut oil on your body and face? Is there a liquid form of the oil?
Hi, Lisa! Yes, I still use it all over. It naturally becomes liquid when exposed to temperature of above about 78 degrees F. ~ Janis
I am so grateful that I came across your video this morning! I have been struggling with giving up sugar and dairy. It’s difficult to give up foods that I’ve been eating all my life. I am 56 years old and have been diagnosed with Osteoporosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and gallstones. I am told I look younger than my age but I need to change my makeup because I think it actually ages my face.
I grew up in Olde Naples and although it has changed drastically since I lived there, it is still beautiful. 🙂
Hello Janis
Thanks a lot for this very inspiring video. it helps a lot (i have been struggling with migraines for the 25 past years and your video gave me hope). I began a GAPS / keto style diet. And i already feel better. I still have migraines but they are less horrible and they come less often.
I hope you’re doing well too.
Could it be possible for you to make a “what i eat in a day” video? It could be very helpful for all people who struggling with chronic problems. With your explainantion, it could provide help to understand which ingredient causes problem and why.
