During the past two months, I’ve purchased three accessories for myself that, although classic items, are nevertheless out of my typical comfort zone.  The first two, a plaid blanket scarf and a man’s watch, are quite oversized.  I’ve been seeing them on 20-something bloggers and liking very much how they looked, but I wondered if they might come across as, well, comical on me.  After all, I’m 55 (that’s what the voice in my head kept saying).

As for the third item, it is a hat.  Granted, I wear a large straw hat every day here in Florida.  It keeps the sun off my face.  I also attend the annual Hats In The Garden fundraiser at Naples Botanical Garden, which requires a dressy hat or fascinator.  The hat I recently ordered, however, fits neither of these categories.  It’s a casual hat that serves no purpose, really, except decoration.  I fell in love with it when I saw a similar one on a woman in a British television show.  Maybe it’s my English roots.

Although accessories are where I give myself permission to take fashion chances, it took me weeks to decide to order each of these items.  Ultimately, I convinced myself, if I didn’t like them I could return them.

At the time I shot this video, I had not had a chance to wear any of them yet.  But since this video I have worn all of them (separately), and I’m happy to say that I am keeping all three.  They may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I, personally, find all of them really fun to wear.

In today’s Classic Pretty and Useful Things video post, you’ll see these three items, and various other things as well that I hope you’ll find interesting.  You can view my new-hat outfit here, and my new-scarf outfit here.  I wore the new watch in my Franklin Covey 2016 Planner Review video that I posted the week before last.  See it here. ~Janis Lyn Johnson
