One of my favorite outfits for going out to dinner with my husband is a core group of classics: button-up blouse, pencil skirt (or full-length pants), good handbag and jewelry, and a pair of sleek pumps. And usually I’ll toss a sweater over my arm or shoulders, since restaurants can sometimes be chilly. This same ensemble works well for a business meeting (minus the necklace); it’s quite versatile. ~Janis Lyn Johnson

ABOVE AND BELOW: Although my heel is narrow, the ball of my foot is wide. So even if my shoe is the right length, I sometimes must place an insert in it to keep my foot from sliding down into the toe. As you can see here, I forgot to place an insert in these pumps. Inserts are how I compensate when the shoe I want to purchase doesn’t have a narrow option in the width. I’d been looking for ages for a pair of pumps to match my Prada bag, when I found these Lauren Ralph Lauren pumps at Marshalls–and on sale. Have to remember the inserts next time!
