THREE TAKES ON BEING A LADY & MY CASUAL DATE-NIGHT OOTD
I received numerous entries for the #BecauseImALady Talbots Gift Card Contest, and choosing just three winners was a challenge. All of them were so special and heartfelt and deserved to win. But ultimately, I had to make a decision, so I picked the three I thought were not only interesting but also were different from the rest. You’ll find them directly below, and I hope you enjoy them. All of them won a $100 gift card from Talbots, and I think they’re wonderful!
If you didn’t happen to see my own post and video about how I define being a lady, click here. Thank you so much, Talbots, for providing the opportunity to be part of this terrific campaign–and for sending the gift cards.
Also in this post is a recent outfit I wore for a casual night out to dinner with my husband. I love wearing ankle boots in the fall and winter, and especially if they have a block heel. They’re so much more comfortable! Because I’m in Florida, my sweater is cotton and my scarf is silk, but for more warmth, you could always wear a long-sleeve tee underneath, and choose a wool scarf and sweater, along with a puffer vest. I’ve listed options with links below, if you’re interested.

#BECAUSEIMALADY TALBOTS GIFT-CARD CONTEST WINNERS
1) Rosemarie S. Kikel, Winning Story
“After thinking about this for a bit, a story that my mother told me more than 50 years ago comes to mind.
“My mother grew up in Germany during WWII, when times were very difficult for everyone in most of Europe. She recalled how there was a girl in her class at school that had lost her father, and because of the war the large family had very little money. This young girl, of perhaps 13 years old, rose to the occasion to be a lady.
“My mother recalled how every night she would wash the only dress and stockings that she owned, so that she could come to school clean. My mother also described how her hair was always clean and carefully braided, even though there was no shampoo available. After school, she had no break, but would have to come home to watch the younger siblings and bake bread for the next day. Not only was this young woman clean, but she was also very smart and kind.
“Today, it is easy for us all to have many nice things and be put together, but the story of this young girl who had so little and yet did all she could, to me, exemplifies lady-like qualities.
“I don’t know her name, but I still think of this young girl whose story inspires me… #BecauseI’mALady.” ~ Rosemarie S. Kikel
JLJ: I loved Rosemarie’s story, because it puts so much in perspective and beautifully illustrates how being a lady isn’t based on what we have, but what we do.
2) Beth Whitley, Winning Photograph
(ABOVE) “I’m 56 and love to travel, zip line, do Zumba, ride roller coasters, paddle board, hike and, especially, run around with my grandsons! Life is an adventure “#BecauseImAlady.” ~ Beth Whitley (Photograph courtesy of Beth Whitley)
JLJ: I loved Beth’s entry, because she radiates with joy in this photograph, and her caption describing all of her many hobbies was impressive. She’s so active and fearless. She proves that exciting adventures don’t have to end just because we are over 30, 40, 50 or more.
3) Hallie Coletta, Winning Photograph
(ABOVE) “#BecauseImAlady, I serve Christmas dinner on my antique dishes and flatware. I light the evening with candelabras, which makes everyone relax and look and feel beautiful.” ~ Hallie Coletta (Photo courtesy Hallie Coletta)
JLJ: I loved Hallie’s entry, because everyone looks like they’re having such an enjoyable and relaxed time and, even though the meal is over, the table looks beautiful with the individual place cards, and antique china, flatware, and candle light. (Hallie isn’t in the photograph; she was the photographer.)
I was so intrigued with the table setting that, when I contacted Hallie to let her know she was one of the three winners, I asked her for more details. Below, see the photographs that she was kind enough to send me.
