(ABOVE) The day after the Hurricane had passed through Naples, one of the first things my husband and I looked for was the Naples Pier. We were grateful to see it was still there.

HURRICANE IRMA, NOT LIKE THE OTHERS
My husband and I have weathered several hurricane scares together in Naples since Andrew in 1992. However, Irma was the first one that truly frightened me. I can’t remember being so nervous, on edge, and unable to sleep for so many days in a row until this particular hurricane. I think that is why I decided to document it. This one, I had a feeling, would not be like the others.
The footage I show in this video is excerpted from a longer video I filmed for my husband and me (shot with my iPhone 6). In it, you’ll glimpse some of what we witnessed before, during, and after Irma swept through this town we love so much, and what she left behind.
All of you who left comments wishing and praying for our safety, thank you for your kindness. To all of you still suffering the after effects of this storm, God Speed and God Bless.

So glad you and your husband are okay. I was telling my husband that you live in Naples and have been wondering how the storm affected you.
I’m so glad you and your husband are alright, Lynn. Your video is beautiful. You’re very talented. Thank you for posting this.
Glad you and your husband are okay. Prayers from Georgia to all affected in Florida.
Excellent video…..very touching…..I never really got out into the streets and neighborhoods right after the storm, so many of those scenes were a major surprise to me….and I LIVE there!!
During your storm I was thinking and praying for your safety and that of all the other people in the path of Irma Thank you for showing the pictures of your area. Just to see those beautiful trees down is so sad. Glad that you, your husband and your home was spared and you are alive and well. Hope you have caught up on your sleep by now. God bless
Happy to learn you and your husband are fine. Poor Naples, hope it rebounds quickly. Florida, Texas, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will need all the help they can get. I pray there are no more hurricanes that harm our country the rest of this year so the rebuilding can begin. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for posting this. I just started following your blog a few months ago and I enjoy it very much. I’m glad you are okay. I live on the west coast of Florida as well. Its hard to describe what we go through to our friends and family that live out of the area. Quite a bit of stress before and after the Hurricane. I did a lot of praying. I hope the rest of the Hurricane season quiets down.
God speed is correct. What a disaster to live through.
Thank you for the video. I am glad you and your husband are doing alright. What a blessing that your home was not damaged by the hurricane.
Thank you for showing us that video. I can imagine how you were feeling but thank to God you and your husband are fine. I heard on the news that the hurricane changed direction and it was going to go thru Naples and I started praying for you your husband and everybody there. Hope your friends are also doing good.
Thank you for the video and your perspective on the hurricane Janis & so glad you are both ok & hope that your mother is also. The damages from these storms are terrible. I’m hoping your lovely town recovers as quickly as possible. Many of your prior videos showed the tropical beauty of the area, and the recent damages were very sad.. We live 1 hr off NC coast and are affected to varying degrees by many such storms; from wind damage to national disaster. My heart goes out to all who suffered in many ways in both storms. Thanks for taking time to document this for us. Best wishes, Laura
How kind people are to be concerned for you and your family, including me. Although you will never meet most of us, it must give you comfort in reading of our well wishes and prayerful thoughts.
Janis,
What a powerful documentary. It was so much more moving than any coverage seen on TV. Perhaps the most moving shot was at the end with you smiling looking back over the ocean. I am thankful that both you and your husband are safe and have power.
Peace, Nancy
