New Year, New Planner!
Goodness, I meant to put together this video a month ago, but just couldn’t seem to get myself organized! But finally, here it is: My 2017 calendar/planner and binder, all from Franklin Covey.
My planner and binder last year were also from Franklin Covey, and as soon as I saw their new Botanical line, I was smitten. I love, love, love the floral artwork. It’s so beautiful. Below are all of the details about my setup this year, but if you want a much better overview, you’ll probably want to take a look at my video at the bottom of this page. There, I go into full details about everything.
I chose a larger size binder and inserts, because I keep mine at home on my desk. But if you prefer a smaller planner, the Botanical inserts also come in a Compact size.
If you have any questions at all–and I totally understand if you do, because I cover so many things below–feel free to leave them in the comments section below.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
~Janis Lyn Johnson
HOME OFFICE ORGANIZATION / PLANNERS: BINDERS, DASHBOARD

(ABOVE) My 2017 Franklin Covey Planner Love Classic-size Binder and “A Few of My Favorite Things” Dashboard with Becky Higgins Project Life ephemera, attached with repositionable Gold Foil Washi Tape.
Note: My Franklin Covey binder is no longer available on line in gold (a few are available by phone at Franklin Covey), but the Franklin Covey Ivory and Pink Confetti Binders below are available on line and would go beautifully with all of my inserts.

(ABOVE) Franklin Covey Planner Love “A Few of My Favorite Things” Dashboard.
I didn’t know what a “Dashboard” was until I kept hearing the term referred to in YouTube planner videos last year. Once I discovered the idea, I was hooked. It’s a laminated, firm cardboard insert that is perfect for attaching sticky notes or inspirational cards and other fun ephemera. I use washi tape, below, which is a pretty and repositionable tape, to attach items that aren’t stiackable/removable otherwise.

(ABOVE) Filofax A-5 Faux Leather Saffiano Organiser, Raspberry, and Filofax A-5 Faux-Leather Saffiano Organiser, Limited Edition Rose Gold (Also available at Amazon.)
My Franklin Covey Classic-size Binder in the gold color is no longer available on line (a few are available by phone). However, if you like a binder this size and want one in gold, the Filofax Limited Edition Rose Gold Binder above, in the A-5 size, is available at Filofax and Amazon. A-5 binders are similar but not identical in size to Franklin Covey’s Classic-size binders. Also shown above is the Filofax A-5-size Saffiano Organiser in Raspberry. (I show this binder in my video and below, too). Note: The inserts from Franklin Covey that I show in this post, however, do not fit Filofax A-5 binders. See more details below.
(ABOVE) I compare my Filofax A-5 Faux Leather Saffiano Organiser in Raspberry with my Franklin Covey Classic Planner Love Binder. Although other colors are available on line at Franklin Covey, the gold binder isn’t (a few are available by phone).
Because I have my Franklin Covey binder packed to the gills, it appears much thicker. However, it’s actually only .3″ thicker. These two binders differ in size by only a few millimeters all the way around. However, the Filofax A5-size Binder has six rings, while the Franklin Covey Classic-size Binder has seven; therefore, their inserts for these particular two binders are not compatible.
Measurements
Filofax A-5-size Binder: 7.68″ x 9.25″ x 1.7″ , and the paper is 5.8″ x 8.3″. The ring size is 1″-1.2″.
Franklin Covey Classic-size Binder: 8″ x 9.5″ x 2, and the paper is 5.5″ x 8.5″. The ring size is 1.25″.
(ABOVE & BELOW) Franklin Covey Storage Binder/Case. (Available in six colors. Shown are aqua and coral.)
This Storage Binder/Case is what I keep my extra calendar/planner pages in (past and future). I only keep three months of my calendar/planner in my Classic Binder at a time. The rest of the calendar pages are stored in here. (It comes with pre-printed labels.)
HOME OFFICE ORGANIZATION / PLANNERS: WEEK ON TWO PAGES PLANNER

The Franklin Covey Planner Love Botanical 12-month Planner/Calendar comes with the Botanical Planner Love Page Finder, below. However, I ordered a second Page Finder so I could use one to quickly locate the current week and the other to quickly locate the current month.
HOME OFFICE ORGANIZATION / PLANNERS: TAB DIVIDERS, POCKET DIVIDERS & REMOVABLE LABELS

(ABOVE) I used writeable, repositionable clear tape to label my 12 Botanical Tab Dividers.
I couldn’t seem to find clear, removable, writeable sticky labels for my tabs. I want to be able to change the labels when I wish. Ultimately, I decided to use the clear, repositionable tape on Post-It Tabs. I simply cut off the colored tab and used the repositionable tape instead!

WHAT I WORE : MOISTURIZER & MAKEUP:
MOISTURIZER-LIPS/EYE AREA: Nourish Organic, Shea Butter / FOUNDATION: 100% Pure, Healthy Flawless Skin Foundation Powder, Both Crème and White Peach / BLUSH: 100% Pure, Lip & Cheek Tint, Cranberry Glow / LIPSTICK: 100% Pure Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick, Tempest / EYESHADOW: 100% Pure Sex Kitten Palette, Cat Eyes / MASCARA: 100% Pure, Fruit Pigmented Ultra Lengthening, Black Tea. (Some links in this post are affiliates. More information here.)
As a base for my lipstick, I always begin with organic shea butter to condition and nourish my lips. It’s especially important when I’m applying matte lipsticks like this one. It keeps my lips from feeling dry.
For a more intense eyeshadow color, I wetted a soft, angled eyeshadow brush and pushed the purple Cat Eyes color into my entire upper lash line and the outer one third of my lower lash line. I then let it dry before buffing it with a clean, soft eyeshadow brush, and repeated the process again. I like that when I close my eyes you can barely see any color on my lids–it’s very natural looking–because the eyeshadow is mostly within the lash line itself. When I open my eyes, you can then see how intense the color really is. (That line in my left eye crease is a blood vessel, not transferred eyeshadow. To keep the eyeshadow from possibly transferring onto my eye crease, I lightly brushed some foundation powder over the shadow once it had dried.)

One of each, please! Love anything floral and intensely-colored and these really fit the bill.
I so agree with you about anything floral, Catherine!! I love when you take photographs of flowers where you live and post them to your Facebook page. I’m looking forward to all the pretties you uncover again this spring and summer. They’re always so beautiful! Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Cheers and happy new year. ~ Janis
Very informative and timely post. My husband recently gifted his Franklin-Covey planner binder to me so I was planning on looking for 2017 planner pages. I loved everything you showed and ordered the Botanical inserts. You made my job a breeze!
Thank you, Terri G. I’m so happy you liked the Planner Love Botanical inserts. I think you will love them when they arrive, because they’re even prettier in person! Cheers ~ Janis
I know you said in the video that the Classic size inserts do not fit A5, but would A5 fit the Franklin Covey Classic size or no? Thank you!
Hi, Charlotte. Thank you for visiting my blog. About the inserts: Unfortunately, A5 inserts don’t work in Classic binders because of the hole configuration, and vice versa. The holes on the A5 inserts don’t line up with the rings on the Classic binders, and the holes on Classic inserts don’t line up with the rings on A5 binders. I found that out the hard way last year, when I bought A5 inserts with the idea of using them in either binder. Hopefully you’ll be able to find something that works for you in the end. I appreciate you taking the time to stop here and leave your question. Have a great week. ~ Janis

I have 1 franklin coveys but I need 1 different one erin condren life planner they’re so great.
Hello, while searching a review for the Franklin Planner’s new FLORAL PLANNER LOVE SIMULATED LEATHER SNAP BINDER for 2018, I came across your beautiful and informed review. Well, guess what. Thanks to you, I just purchased the classic size binder along with the BLUSH FLORALS PLANNER LOVE WEEKLY RING-BOUND PLANNER JAN 18. Yours looked so beautiful, that I just had to have one. I also purchased all the matching accessories to go with it. Mind you, I’ve been an FP user since the end of the 1980’s. I have through the years used every size. For the last couple of years, I’ve been using the Monarch size to keep at my desk at home. But now I have to sell my Monarch and Compact sizes, otherwise, I would have way too many. I already purchased the compact Blush Florals Planner Love Weekly Ring-Bound Planner for 2018. I love it! It looks so delicate and I love the color. Have you seen it yet? Which one are you going to purchase for 2018 since it doesn’t look like the Botanical planner you reviewed is available anymore. I think the Blush Floral is replacing it. Anyway. Thanks for the wonderful review. Please let me know which one you are going to purchase for 2018. The new Blush Floral will match your beautiful gold binder. Also, I have a lot of those repositional sticky tabs. You had a great idea in cutting off the top and using them for your divider tabs! Again thanks for your wonderful review. You made the binder and inserts look gorgeous in your presentation.
Hi Janis, that healthy muffin sound great what you enjoy with your green tea in the afternoon. If you can send it. Love to watch al your tips and clothing but not available in New Zealand
Kind Regards

Hi, Lisa! Did you happen to see the Her Point of View ringbound weekly planner at Franklin Covey? It’s a spiral bound planner that is pocket size. Also, Filofax has a gorgeous selection of pastel and brightly colored pocket planner covers, and you just pick what inserts you want to go in it. See their selection here.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog! ~ janis
Dear Madam Janis
Thank you for your beautiful sharing about your skillful usage of planner.
I became to convince that my starting of using paper planner again could be useful not only for me but also for my teenager daughter.
Even though i don’t know whether i understood your speech perfect or not, your movie motivated me to use my planner long-maybe lifetime.
Peace and Grace be with you.
Hello, my name is Esmirna from Chile. Beautiful your planners. Are you sending them to this part of the end of the world?
Hi, Esmirna. Thank you so much for visiting me here at my blog. I don’t sell any planners. I bought my planner at Franklin Covey. I give all the links on this blog post. I would advise that you check there. I’m not sure which countries to which they mail their products. If you find they don’t mail them to Chile, you can always see if they are sold on Amazon.com. Some of the Franklin Covey planners are available there. I’m just not sure which ones. Hope this information is of some help to you. Thank you again for taking the time to visit and ask your question. ~ Janis
Hi I’d just love to have one of these lovely planners and some planner stickers please.as I just think these are just really fabulous and lovely.
Franklin Planners are THE BEST!!! It’s a great system if you are the least bit unorganized and could use a great tool to “get it together”!! It may seem like a bit much to take on, but once you jump in, get started and get used to the system, you’ll be wondering how you ever got along without it.
I HIGHLY recommend it!!!
