Fashion-Over4--50-Gingham-Button-Down-White-Shorts-Rain-Skimmers

It has been hot, humid, and raining off and on for days here, so when friends suggested we meet for an early casual dinner, I decided to wear the duck skimmers I got last month–and white shorts. September 7 is the last day of summer, so I am taking advantage of as many outfits as possible that incorporate white shorts, skirts, or dresses.

Although I do wear white jeans year round—and Emily Post has declared any white item acceptable after Labor Day—I still hear my mother’s voice telling me it is a “not” when it comes to any other bottoms. So, after Labor Day, I try to put together outfits that at least offer some sort of nod toward fall, even if the temperature is in the 80s and 90s.

On the way to dinner, I stopped in Talbots to try on a few things, and since it was pouring outside I photographed my outfit in the dressing room. (My gosh, they have terrific lighting!) I ended up finding a cute casual sweater and necklace there, which you’ll see in an upcoming post.

Although my duck skimmers are black, I think they work well with the navy gingham button down and navy woven-leather bracelet. Let me know what you all think. ~Janis Lyn Johnson
