An Understated Fourth of July OOTD

I love dressing to celebrate holidays. And yes, I am one of those people who loves and wears Christmas-theme sweaters. They’re so darn cute and fun.

But sometimes I want to pay tribute to a holiday in a less obvious way. That’s what I did for this post. All the colors are there; but every item is a solid, so the overall look is sleek.

This zipper skirt can be styled to look sexy–or sporty, as I’ve done here by pairing it with a polo shirt and conservative heels. My bag actually has two zippers, too, on the other side. To keep them from competing with my skirt, I turned those zippers toward me, so they don’t show.

I could have stained my lips a bright red to match the bag, but I wanted to keep my “no-makeup makeup” look fresh and sporty as well. So I created a sheer red tint by applying a hibiscus color lipstick over organic shea butter.

I can’t believe it’s almost July already. Happy Fourth (next Monday), everyone!

P.S. About My Charm Necklace (July 4, 2016): I have had questions about my necklace, and where to buy it, so I thought I would add this note. It has special meaning to me, because each charm represents a member of my birth family. Originally it was just the chain and letter “J”, which my parents gave to me about 20 years ago. One brother gave me the pearl on a necklace about 20-plus years ago, and my other brother gave me the ladybug on a necklace about 10 years ago. I combined all three charms on one chain. After searching on line, I was able to find a cute gold-filled necklace that’s a similar idea, with several charms including an initial. I also located a 14k gold initial necklace and a 14k gold over sterling silver initial necklace.
